I am still worrying about the cIOS being installed. Is it a must for the backup loader ?

It's probably a similar process to the ESR and Momento patching of PS2 fame.
All you most likely need to do is patch the ISO before burning it.

There is a seperate HD ISO loader being worked on.

Since it uses Waninkoko's cIOS, it should be compatible with trucha. After all, that's one of the reasons for this cIOS.
