Yes. On easy level it uses three notes which is B, right d pad and A, it then adds the 1 and 2 buttons as you progress up the levels. You shake for whammy bar and up d pad to activate star/battle power.
You can't strum but it's not hard to beat career mode on easy level. It's not too bad once it adds a 4th note but it's like doing a rubiks cube blindfold on harder levels.
