My Switch is running SX Pro on EmuNAND. My intention is to keep it from ever going online so I deleted my WiFi password and I have it in airplane mode. However, to use Wireless LAN I have to have WiFi turned on.

My question is: Will either Official Firmware 6.0.1 on SysNAND or CFW 6.0.1 on EmuNAND automatically connect to an open WiFi hotspot that it has never connected to before? Or am I safe turning on WiFi to play with others on the go? (obviously, I'd turn WiFi off right after to be safe)

While most areas don't have any open WiFi these days, my university uses an open WiFi for a guest network which really shouldn't go online even if it connects to it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry since any student could turn their phone into an open wifi connection.

Since you're using SX OS, turn on Stealth Mode. That will block all Nintendo based communications and you can use wifi for other things

I think it auto connects to any open networks named "attwifi" and possibly others. You're still safe as long as you have stealth mode enabled.

Don’t for get about those evil Nintendo Hotspots which are likely related to the “attwifi” mentioned above.

Thanks everyone! It's good to know both that Stealth mode will protect me on CFW, and also that open WiFi will auto-connect while on official firmware (which has no stealth mode), so if I am ever in official and have WiFi turned off I will need to be prepared to let Nintendo talk to me.

For Stealth mode, I am curious: Could I use it to let Homebrew apps go online? and use online LAN play? If so, it would actually be safe to connect it to my internet access. I have a Network Switch (different kind of product) I could wire the console to via Ethernet instead of the WiFi.

It really sucks that the Switch goes online even when you don't want it to. Even if I wasn't running CFW, I'd prefer to avoid having things download without my permission.

Stealth Mode ONLY blocks Nintendo based communications. Meaning Nintendo sites, e-shop and firmware updates. Everything else is unblocked
