Homebrew Why update?

whats the point of even updating if you already have cfw/ homebrew etc? just wondering , i understand there is minor fixes etc. but why would someone want to update their device's software version? i know recently a new update came out for 3ds, but cant see myself ever downloading it.. thoughts? opinions?

Newer games need newer firmwares. You can have your cfw 3DS all the way back on 4.0.0 if you really want, but there's no point when 11.7 works fine. 11.7 can play every game that exists and doesn't have any sort of update nag.

Since every update just works and they're required to go online or play newer games, NOT updating is actually more difficult since you have to explicitly block or cancel update prompts.

alright, thanks for the comments, im very new to 3ds homebrew etc. i was lucky and modded my 3ds with soundhax and didnt have to buy anything and it was very easy, so when i see updates, it just makes me worrisome the newer updates make it harder to mod etc. but i guess thats something i shouldnt be worrying about anyways if i already have a modded system.

I do not have a hacked 3DS yet but obvious reasons are eShop access, online play, and access to newer games

My reason for updating after having CFW is simple: There's no reason not to.
There is no downside. Everything still works.

If you have B9S and Luma3DS installed, then there's no reason not to update. Reasons to update include game compatibility, access to the eShop, and online play.

Because everything works fine, including online! I've been using online for ltieral months and never been banned. I don't think Nintendo cares about the 3DS online anymore. So you can safely update your 3DS, it's hackable in any firmware (:

There's literally no reason not to update. If you are running an up to date CFW like Luma3DS or Rei-Six, then there's no harm in updating and keeping compatibility with all of Nintendo's services.
