i know many of you are hyped to see the switch using cartridges, but support for 3ds games? not gonna happen. its not a matter of software, but rather hardware.

what i mean is, the switch looks more like a souped up tablet in landscape mode. the system may or may not have a touch screen, but that isnt the problem. the problem is, the 3ds has 2 screens, and both wouldnt be able to fit correctly on a horizontal tablet, and all the buttons can do is come off the sides, making it much too awkward to play in portrait mode. due to most ds games in general needing the use of a touchscreen and a split screen, the switch lacks the hardware to actually be able to play them.

even if it does have a touch screen, you still wouldnt be able to play it on your tv screen (ik thats what you all are thinking lml)
because to connect it to a tv, it has to be plugged in to its charger/stand, which blocks the switch screen. plus, ds/dsi/3ds games will look completley horrible without some decent upscaling.

so thats the main reason why the switch wont be able to play (3)ds games. maybe theyll make you buy an extra little accessory to add support, cause lets face it, nintendo makes most of its money selling you the same thing like 4 times. but all in all, its not gonna happen, at least on a stock switch

ps: im open for debate if you have any reason as to why it could possibly support ds games

i wish they could do another thing like the wii u gamepad and tv gameplay at the same time, but that's not gonna happen

it seems gimmicky but there were lots of cool ideas from it, what's the fun gimmick this time? Controllers you can remove doesn't add any fun play styles like the gamepad did

Remember how the joycons have a stand and they can be put together as a regular controller?
Well yeah. Portrait would look a bit fuzzy, but with a touch screen it would work. Also, the joycons pro controller thingy.
I'm one of those people that think if it's ever supported, god please let it only work on tablet mode and not in tv docked mode. Those low resolutions would look like ass stretched on a big screen.

Or maybe one of those YT videos where Let'sPlay-ers have the upper screen taking 3/4 of the screen and the bottom screen only occupying a piece of the remaining 1/4.
My point is, it wouldn't be as awkward as you make it seem.

the main problem being the controller is in one hand, then the tab in the other, or the lanscape screen would get cut in half, which would also look terrible. And i doubt it will have a portrait mode to begin with.

Wii U manage to pull it off with the gamepad and since this may have motion controls, it can have it on the TV too. Talking VC, because hardware BC was already denied.
but on the wiiu, you could use the gamepad and the tv at once. ON switch its one or the other, without again, an extra adapter

Being one or the other doesn't mean it isn't possible. Just like how the Wii U can play the whole game on the gamepad, the Switch can too.
Im certianley not saying it isnt possible but if the switch could play a whole ds game on its hardware, using only its 1 screen, that would make it closer to a port rather then actually being compatible

No, he means both screens virtually stacked vertically on one physical screen
I know what he meant lol. But I only doubt it it because it's a horizontal console. Main problem comes from games that use both buttons + touch at the same time. Not to mention the fact that the switch will use a tegra based CPU, while 3ds uses arm

even if it couldn't be done with physical cards, digital shop could be a choice. Not to mention it doesnt have to have any physical hardware for BC lt could do software emulation.

I doubt they would add software emulation just for eshop games, and then not cartridges. Adding support by editing those eshop games would define them more as ports rather then being actually backwards compatible

well the wii ports are pretty cool on the wii u, ports are better then nothing, just look at final fantasy crystal chronicles echoes of time as an example of how well a game converrts from ds format to wii controler format, not the most elagent thing in the world but it kinda worked. It was a game dual released for wii and ds although sadly the wii version was dumped on as a money grab...although i found it kinda neat

True, but to be fair, its final fantasy.
Ofc square-enix would bring that back though.
And it wasn't exactly the same game, because that version was built from the wii version, not the Ds version, so my point still stands because Wii and wiiu share hardware
