Hacking Why no Golden Eye VC game?

From what i can gather Nintendo's N64 emulator is actually pretty half-assed. A large number of injected N64 roms either don't load or have glitches. Also I really dont see why people are so excited about playing N64 games on the Wii when it is pretty easy to hook up an SDTV to a PC with an N64 controller+adapter.

I read the original post, but I failed to notice what section I was in. The VC threw me as I though he was talking about an official release of GE on the VC.

Still phailz. The first post mentions injecting.

Anyway, it's not Nintendo being half-assed about the emulator, it's the fact that each emulator built-in to each VC game is designed to make that particular game run on the console. It's coincidence that SSB runs in Sin & Punishment.

If it is really due to some sort of chip that Rare games have in their cartridges (I doubt this is really the case, but it'd explain why it doesn't work in wads since they aren't written with that hardware in mind.) once a Rare game is released (DK64 anyone?) chances are that it may work in that wad if there isn't any anti-piracy code in it.

Meh.

There’s nothing on Live Arcade, there’s nothing on Wii.” He was referring to the secret agreement between Nintendo and Microsoft that failed back in 2006. Microsoft would agree to let Nintendo launch the game on Wii’s Virtual Console if Nintendo agreed to let Microsoft launch it on Xbox Live Arcade. Nintendo didn’t like the plan.

Oh that's stupid, it's still a good deal. Many people own a Wii and won't buy a 360 just for it. That graphics are the some.

God Nintendo, do something good for once. Either that or they're trying anti-piracy with the VC.

The Wii literally feels like the N64. Nintendo wants to do everything their own way. Only difference now is that theres third party support (but its shit), more games (also shit) and its selling the most, which is just more reason for Nintendo to keep doing what they were doing. I miss my 64

You know, I could swear I just said that. Obviously I don't know about injecting. So sue me. I wandered into the wrong section because of the title, posted some stupid shit, then admitted I was dumb. That's more than most of the members here do. So thanks for being a douche about it, it's appreciated.

Sry, I didn't think you'd take my comment so seriously. The title is a bit misleading.

Actually, their implementation is pretty ingenious. Since they have a pretty strictly limited selection of what N64 VC games they release, they customize, tweak, and optimize an emulator for each game specifically (and possibly others depending on how close the core of said games are. ie: Goldeneye and Perfect Dark) so it runs really well rather than like crap with the one-size-fits-all homebrew emulators. This tweaking also allows them to make improvements like offering widescreen support for example.

This is why to inject a rom into an existing VC wad you need to match up the rom to be injected to a released VC game that is most compatible code-wise else problems and bugs of all sorts are introduced. Even then, no game is 100% compatible which is why you get bugs anyway like you mentioned. But this is outside the scope of what Nintendo planned for. Inside their own plan, this setup works perfectly and to their advantage.

And like another poster stated: The largest reason why Goldeneye so far hasn't been viable on the homebrew/VC rom injecting side is because the game engine is extremely custom to the point to needing either large system requirements or an emulator well optimized for it. Nintendo so far hasn't released a VC game that is at all compatible to inject the rom into which wouldn't even be possible anyway. An actual Goldeneye VC release would be more likely if Nintendo can sort out licensing issues and determine when they would feel like releasing it. And of course, Wii64 is far from being playable at this point ESPECIALLY trying to get Goldeneye to run for the same reasons posted above (specific optimizations and tweaks just for Goldeneye)

Edit: This also probably applies to other systems in the VC library. The SNES would be a good example considering the wide selection of games which had custom hardware in the carts (ie: Megaman series) that require specific emulation.

Nintendo was never fully owning Rare. It was a piece of cake for MS to get them.
However, dont expect that with DonkeyKong as host wad you could inject other Rare Games.
