There are basically 3 download packages:

OPNPS2LD.7z - The main code
OPNPS2LD-LANGS.7z - Language packs
OPNPS2LD-VARIANTS.7z - Main binary built with different build options

These files will always be the latest beta version

There are also files that have the specific version in the name (-v1.2.0-Beta-1882-71143b7.7z in this case) - they are the same as the base files, but with the specific version name.

If you speak English and want the default compile options, just use the first one. If you want support for some other language, then download the -LANGS archive and copy the .lng file (and optionally the font file, if it exists) to your OPL directory.

The "variants" file contains exactly what it suggests - you probably don't need it unless you have some very specific requirements:

You are running on a PS2 TOOL (DTL_T10000)
You want in-game screenshot support (IGS)
You want support for DS3 or DS4 (PADEMU)
You use a language that's written right-to-left like Arabic, Hebrew or Persian (RTL)

Since there are 4 options there are a total of 16 files allowing for every possible combination.

So, the base version doesn't have the specific version in the name? If so, I find it odd.

There are two pointers to the same file:

OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-1882-71143b7.7z
OPNPS2LD.7z

The first one contains the build number and the second one doesn't. Whenever a new release is made the link is updated to the latest version. So downloading "OPENPS2LD.7z" will always get you the most recent release version even if you don't know what the current build is.

But when OPNPS2LD.7z is extracted, there's also a OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-1882-71143b7 file.

Right, that's so you can tell which version it is, since it's not in the file name - the actual files you want are inside that directory.

The only thing you actually need is the .ELF file inside that directory. Also note that this is not the package you want if you are doing a first-time install.

I only use that ELF. Why isn't it the right package if doing a first-time install?
