I have been searching and I haven't found anything on to why people hate Softmii/Cioscorp. For those that don't use it, what do you use? As for uses, playing backup games, what other hacks out there that can out perform Softmii/Cioscorp? I can't seem to find them anywhere. I have Softmii/Cioscorp and when I read threads that criticize it I feel like I'm not getting the best out of my Wii. I want to know what, why and how your way is better than Softmii/Cioscorp, for backups.

Because Softmii is just a pack containing already available hacks and applications, and when a person simply installs softmii they are not aware of what they are actually installing to their wii and inevitably bricks follow from their lack of knowledge (i.e. deleting an IOS)

ok lets just break down your statement for you ok and sort of blow your theory out the water.

Cioscorp has nothing to do with softmii, it just takes cIOS249 and basically installs it to every IOS on the NAND , though making everysingle IOS unofficail and potentially brick worthy.

2nd of all SoftMii is NOT a method or a hack

its just everyone else work, that they take, they make custom .png and .xml files so they can change the name that shows up in HBC and then they write a guide about how to install it ok.

END OF DISCUSSION...SoftMii is just everyone elses work (yer so they recoded a few apps..which funnily enough DIDNT WORK lol) and they package it and right a guide.

    ok.

    Troll post........

BTW, cioscorp does not install IOS249 to all the IOS, it installs DIP patched versions of the Original IOS' for the ones that were patchable, and for the other that were not able to be patched substitutes a DIP patched IOS36 in place of them i believe.

It was also SoftMii that introduced the first Custom System Menus and the tool to be able to safely install them.

And Oh yea, region free backup loading from disc channel. That was in the RiskiiMod days before the name change.

I guess the haters can take over from here.......

Actually Forsaeken did that, just never released it. However the Softmii Team did release the Softmii tweaks tool which only installs an editted app file into the nand.

Also, Softmii is a package, but none of the files inside are credited under whoever made them, only as a "special" thanks in the readme.

Fors didn't have anything substantial done as a CSM. He and DigitiyDogs were working on some stuff but abandoned the work due to their jobs and time availabililty. When I found out Digity had no time to put into CSM development I took over the CSM end of things and recruited MonkeyJam and DMCBudman to work as the dev team for them. The three of us then proceeded to spend about 2 months doing heavy testing/experimenting and released the first comprehensive CSMs.

After we released some of the more comprehensive themes is when Forsaekn abandoned his CSM work. In discussion with him I believe he stated that we had progressed far past where he was with CSM and decided to not continue on that path.

People who were actually around and involved with the projects know what the truth is and what went on.

Jizmo is correct I remember that Fors abandon the project and that's when digity and Jizmo started working on it I believe and they released it.If I remember I used to ask Digity how he was editing the app files and well he helped understand how to edit stuff and such but I never really stared working on any themes or anything.

the softmii tool was written by crediar, called cInstaller, well before his involvement with SoftMii.

regionfree was just another combining of otherpeoples work, ARCm5 with built in starfall hacks basically on top of corpcios.

and jizmo your the ultimate troll, i was giving a basic idea of what it does, it basically turns all IOS into a cIOS.

and the whole process of custom health screens and stuff was posted on a german site by WiiShizzza before softmii done it

so once again they pieced together other peoples work.

i personally think Wadder/MyM have done more, ice made it legal (ish), easy and safe to make your own not just install ones made by people.

Not that I give a rat's ass about the whole affair, but if Jizmo is correct, then you should have just left it at that, because you subsequently directly contradict what he says. Of course, it doesn't help that he even appears to contradict his own statements too. [IMG]

SoftMii is like a "Hacking Wii for dummys" Guide. It walks your hand through a hacked Wii. Everyone hates it either through misinformation or ignorance.

cIOSCORP is the patching of the DIP module onto every IOS in the Wii. Some Skeptics suspect that there may be a future regret for going such drastic measures, while others are content with the risk they are taking.

I personally think the risk is all in mind and cIOSCORP won't actually affect anybody who follows the correct steps negatively.

Basically, its not fact that these things are bad, but rather it is a matter of opinion. Some will detest Softmii and like cIOSCORP and some will Detest cIOSCORP and like Softmii. There is not given reason, just individuals hating or liking them for personal reasons.

yea it was made for softmii, it has softmii logo on boot, somethings may well be others work, but its everything one need to hack there wii in one place, this is why the wii section on gbatemp is fail, 1000 noobs asking "what do i do now" well if they got the softmii package they wouldnt need to ask so many questions, sure for the 1st people that hacked wii its not very usefull, but for new users its very usefull.

    Not exactly.

It replaces the original kernel of all modular IOS versions (higher than IOS9) with the DIP patched kernel from IOS36 (basis for most cIOS versions prior to 11). So you end up with a bunch of IOS versions that use to have different kernels now having the same DIP patched kernel from IOS36.

Most of the IOS versions from 30 and up share one of three distinct kernels (00000015.app, 0000003B.app, or 00000044.app). Afer CIOSCorp they all share 00000015.app.

If it was truly just "DIP patching" the IOS versions you would have a DIP patched 00000015.app, 0000003B.app, and 00000044.app (and possibly others by now).

    Bad medicine in my book.

At least this is a more interesting thread than reading a hundred threads about USB loaders. I had posted an In Depth review of CIOSCORP when we tested it as username Jizmo but I can't seem to find it in search now. If anybody finds it please post the link in this thread for me.

Hrmmm.... my long winded explanation of IOS/CIOS is still found in search, but i can't find the cioscorp review. Maybe is hadn't been named yet when I wrote the review.

Here is my basic reason why I dont really like CIOSCORP..... From what I have understood it is very hard to uninstall once you have it on your system. The second reason is I dont understand what CIOSCORP can do that Waninkokos CIOS cant? Every single game other than Call of Duty 3 have I been able to play with Waninkokos. So why would I switch to something that is hard to uninstall and from all accounts really messes with your Wii hardcore. Im sure it works but I just have yet to understand what it does better from the posts I have seen about it.

the purpose of CIOSCORP was to be able to run backups from Disc Channel. It provided the Disc Banners/Animations in the disc channel by having IOS30 dip patched and the ability for the games to run using their original intended IOS by having all the other IOS' dip patched. It was intended for normal disc channel game loading in the backup loading days before usb loader. It was also part of what provided the highest compatibility/protection you could have on a hacked wii during it's time. Now that most people have moved on to 4.0 and USB loading it's usefullness is diminished. It's a method who's time has come and gone unless your stuff running backup discs and want to see the the game banners/disc channel animations.

The extra protection it provided was from it's ability to load backup disks like autoboot wad manager, autoboot hbc and autoboot any region changer discs from recovery mode. Those could not load without cioscorp because there is no such thing as OFFICIAL discs of those utilities.

That's not even a good argument. We're not talking about Custom Health Screens which is a whole different thing from modifying brlyts and look/feel of the system menu. I never claimed that we were the first to have custom health screens. The things we were working on were things like adding code to brlyts to support 4 full color custom cursors, custom empty channel animations, replacing 8 pixel wide Message Board background with full screen pic background, removing empty channels, etc... stuff like that. Everybody and their brother were doing custom health screens. We were working on brlyts and finding working tools to use to be able to unpack/pack ash files properly without corruption errors.

I agree with you it sounds as if its time has come and gone. I have just recently got into the Wii hacking scene in the past couple of months. And over the past several months have seen no need to use CIOSCORP. I guess on the only big difference I would get with having CIOSCORP installed is being able to play games through the Disc Channel. Which I really dont even care about since I load most of my games through a USB hard drive anyway. If Im playing backup games from discs I just use Neogamma. Which I have a channel for. So once again I come to the conclusion why would anyone need CIOSCORP? With USB Loader GX as my preferred USB loader and Neogamma for backup disc. I can do anything that a person with CIOSCORP can.
