Why can't we tempers comment on sponsored articles? If were going to get stuff thrown on the homepage we should be able to comment on it. If we can't comment on it then is there going to be a way to block or hide the sponsored propaganda being thrown at us?

I get it that temp has to pull in some revenue sources but it seems very disingenuous to start putting up sponsored articles and not allow us to comment on them. Are you afraid that peoples opinions will upset the sponsors?

I think locking sponsored threads is bad, as well, because no-one is able to share just how bad GBAtemp is going down right now. GBAtemp could do better by not posting SEO spam in my feed, it's gross, but sadly this is how they're going to make their money.

I mean, its just ads. Yeah it sucks but people gotta pay the bills. It's clearly marked as sponsored so just ignore them. No different to ads on YouTube before a video.
i dont use youtube and im not a serf who just bows to the continual dehumanization machine. its not just ads. its a takeover of space that is meant for gaming. propaganda to train the low iq and braindead. those that accept it are serfs who are not smart enough to realize they are being programmed. if there was a setting to block sponsored ads from my front page I could ignore them.

you might be fine with your subconscious mind being taken over and programmed without your consent but i am not. the censorship taking away peoples voice where we can comment on everything but the propaganda is clearly wrong and anyone with a brain could see that. first its you cant comment on sponsored ads but what next?

when everything comes down to making a buck you end up with soulless worthless communications like this one im having right now.

well see where it goes but these are the types of things that slowly break the credibility and destroy communities like this. but hey at least its not as bad as cloudflare. people accept their own demise with the slow tiptoe down the tube until they just accept all the garbage because its normal and everyone is doing it. how i miss the BBS days and old days when the internet wasnt full of garbage.

it becomes an issue of credibility when a site that used to speak truth starts putting up propaganda just for money. writing fake stuff to prop up microtransaction filled gatcha games like marvel rivals just for a buck. to prey upon people who become gambling filled adrenaline junkies. not by their own admission but by a propaganda push for $$.

While I understand the dislike of the lack of potential for discourse on sponsored posts, you can still express your opinion with "Like" reactions. However, the top "similar thread" seems to be a good indicator that it should be expected to continue. Personally, I don't take issue with the sponsored posts or the inability to comment. I don't read everything that's posted anyway, so it's no different from any other article that doesn't interest me.

maybe im a bit biased with the wording that gbatemp admins are using. are they trying to generate revenue to profit or just to maintain the site? i have hosted websites and know some of the costs that go into hosting. this is just a forum and it isnt really hosting files or anything so there shouldnt be huge overhead.

if it is community oriented and truly focused on independent hobbiest mentality then the people in charge shouldnt be trying to line their pockets with tons of revenue. is gbatemp trying to be ign? where the only thing that is independent is the fake name of the site?

i guess im an old head where i remember the pre-internet days of BBS where people hosted bulletin board systems as a hobby and the money they did get was done to support phone lines and there really wasnt revenue but there wasnt really a loss either because the community supported upgrades. i have fond memories of local pizza parties and events that cost money and attracted donations to support upgrades to BBS functionality.

what upgrades have their been at gbatemp over the decade + that ive been around that warrant paying for? does gbatemp have issues with having to pay lawyers or something that people arent aware of. it would be better to be a little more forth coming rather than talking about revenue the thread explanation is. maybe if there was a little bit more openness on to what was actually going on id feel compelled to donate some money. with the wording being used and there not being a true openness of what ive expierenced in independent communities i dont feel compelled to donate specially if its not going to stop changes because its being used for revenue streams rather than supporting cost of functionality. gaming used to be a hobby and i realize that alot of people want to treat it as a full time job. i might have expectations that just arent realistic with the way money has corrupted most people.

They are ads. You want to be able to comment on ads? You really have nothing better to do with your time than write comments about ads??? 😂
It's the internet. Everybody wants to comment about **everything**, because why? Fuck if I know.

But for some reason, **everybody** thinks their comment is amazing AND important, and that the whole wide world has to know their idiotic opinion.

And mega-corporations love it, because it drives "engagement" and they also get to train their AI models on it.

Remember when the internet used to be good? Come to think of it, I can't remember that either anymore, lol.

The ads aren’t the problem, it’s the way it’s making it hard to scroll and the site seems to be doing some refresh page thing. The ads should just be on the top or bottom of website, not all around, I don’t really know the right way to describe this, all I know I barely use my duck duck go app but today and yesterday I needed too. Please fix how the ads are shown, get your revenue but don’t make it difficult to browse gbatemp.

This is why I had to change browsers. Spamming 3/4 of the screen with the same as reeks. I tested this further and that is actually the ONLY ad I'm shown. When scrolling to reply, the ads seem to purposely cover up the reply button. This site is burning fast and the people who run it are clearly trying to cash out. F the users of the past decades, right?

Here's what it looked like for me prior:
