So I have a Wiikey installed onto two Wiis. One of them works fine, and updates as it should (currently 1.9s).

The problem is my other Wii. I also have a Wiikey on it, but I cannot get it to update. I cannot get it to update to 1.9g nor 1.9s. The person who installed the chip for me told me that I cannot update that one because it is "first gen" or something. Is there such a thing as a non-updatable Wiikey?

hmmm i'm no expert but the 'first gen' excuse seems like BS to me, I thought they were able to be updated from the start.. Maybe he installed a clone? Though I don't know if clones are non-updatable or not. again i'm no authority, probably shouldn't even be posting, but I do have a wiikey that works perfectly.

I also call bullshit. Your installer put in something other than a WiiKey. Open it up and see for yourself. Then/Or take it back to your installer and tell them to open it up and replace it.

Just a quick question since the stupid wiikey site sucks balls for information
After the Wiikey been installed do you pop in the Config 1.9s disc in first then the
Wiikey 1.9s Update ?

Config disc then update it, yes. That's what i'm going to do, anyway. It shouldn't really do any harm whichever way you do it, really.

haha, bs on that "first gen excuse", I have one as well as other people I know and we all updated fine to 1.9s. we did have to install 1.3b (recovery disc) I think it was after brawl because for some reason it didn't want to recognize our retail discs (brawl included), so we just updated back up to 1.9g. it got messed up again (we like to keep wiiconnect24 on), so just gave up and waited for wiikey team to upload the new 1.9s firmware.

so...if anything, try to run the recovery disc, and update back through 1.9g then 1.9s.

also...I didn't use the config disc, you really don't need it. if it's like the others it's just for fixing drive speed (which it doesn't do...) turning region override on and off, as well as other things.

Where can I find the recovery disk? I'm not too sure what it even is.

Also, I opened up my wii today (modded by the same guy who claimed he uses Wiikey). It has no Wiikey hologram on it, which kinda ticks me off. Instead it has the brand "Amtel" on it. However, my Wii works and updates just fine as it should though.

I just looked up some pictures of Wiikeys, and they don't seem to have any holograms on them either. So how do you tell a real Wiikey from a clone?

I plan to open up my cousins's wii soon and take a look at what chip is installed.

Now that your wii is open, might as well check everything is soldered right:

http://wiikey.cn/images/installWiiKey.pdf

if it's quick soldered, then...maybe your installer soldered a little too quick and maybe bridged something. If all physical connections are alright, like myself, maybe you just need to recover.

by no means do I know what I'm talking about, this just comes from experience, but...first I would "update" to 1.9b:

http://www.wiiloaded.com/wii-news-WiiKey-F...-Leaked-a-11517
(scroll down)

after that, check if you can play a pre galaxy game like...zack & wiki or zelda, you should be able to. check if you can play a galaxy back up, you shouldn't be able to (it'll load on wii menu, but not in game).

then dl the 1.9g update:

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=1218

and check if you can play galaxy, you should be able to. then try your retail copy of ssbb, it shouldn't work, a back up will though.

then install 1.9s:

http://www.wiikey.cn/resources.html

you should now be able to play your retail games (mainly ssbb) along with back ups.

if the first step didn't even work, maybe try recovery disc?:

http://www.circuitdb.com/articles/8 (wii recovery 1.9b)

there's also a tut I ran across on afterdawn:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/686869

hope any of that helps.

also, I plan to maybe upload my own working burns to gbatemp, because linking to other websites really sucks bothways.

Thanks for all those links. I'll surely try them out as soon as my cousins comes back.

The Wii that I opened was mine, which works just fine so I'll leave it alone. However I was really bothered by the fact that the installer used scotch tape instead of electrical tape to protect the wiring...
