Just installed mine bought from dealextreme into a pal wii and it works fine, updated config with 1.2 disk and as far as I can tell is region free (well cooking mama works) cannot see any reason to pay more for an 'original'

OK, mine's in and works fine. Tried Sonic, Extreme Truck and Red Steel. Played for each game for about an hour plus (with the exeption of Sonic cause it was killing me!) No clicky noises or DRE's as yet.

Purchased from Dealextreme for $30 but I've had some money back since they admitted that it's a clone (although they say the current $11 one's are from a different supplier).

Good quality, looks almost identical the original but with slightly larger letters on the PCB. Sorry forgot to take a photo but it's the same as someone posted on another thread. I'll try to find link the picture.

Not updated to 1.2 yet but this won't prove anything as it doesn't update the code on the chip.

EDIT: Mine's the same as this one.

If you don't buy originals, the money goes to the cloning people.

You say to yourself, why do I care? Let me tell you why. These guys worked hard to design and implement this mod, and if you support them, they can continue to function as a business. Part of this support comes back to you, the end user. They have offered to replace non-working chips, have responded to emails from their users, and basically are a crapload less shady than other modchip makers over the years.

If you buy clones, you are basically cockpunching the guy who is making mods possible for you. The guys who make the clones don't give a damn about you.
Wiikey at least has incentive not to piss of a lot of people. Who are you going to get mad at when your clone doesn't work as advertised? YOU DON'T KNOW.

OK, end of rant.
SO????
Wiikey is asking way to much money for there chip
As they max. pay just 1.50dollar for the chip and sell it for 45dollar
if they would sell it for 10dollar i would have bought an original

the thing I find funny about this topic is that several users getting on their high horse saying "support originals." Yet have modified chips that able them to play pirated copies of original Wii games. Hypocrites.

yeah, I noticed that too
personally I just want one that'll work and be updateable. That's actually the reason I'm reading this thread in the first place. I guess I'll wait until they release the update that's supposed to be 'clone-proof' and see what people say.

I also got a kick out of that. IMHO I'll go with the cheapest option that'll work.

To everyone who wants to bitch about the ethics of using a cloned chip:

Shut up. In this thread, no one cares about what you think. The topic of the thread is whether or not they are working.

If the topic of the thread was: "Whine here if you don't think it's right to use cloned chips, even though you probably would have bought one if they were available when you got yours, and now you just want to bitch because you think everyone should have to pay as much as you did", then maybe your comments would be appropriate.

And just incase you want my opinion: They overcharge out the ass for these products. $20, for instance, would be a fair price. $50 after shipping is highway robbery. But we'll pay it because it's the price of a game.

They're essentially stealing form Nintendo and developers. But why don't I care? Because they're overpricing the hell out of their games to begin with. 90% of them just aren't worth the money. And I shouldn't have to wait years until they fall to a $20-30 price point. But of course they make it look like they overcharge because of piracy. Sorry guys, we've been paying $50 for lame games since the days of the NES, and piracy wasn't a real issue. We all know 95% of those games weren't worth nearly the price.

Then you'll say "well games cost more to produce". Well sure they do, but there are more revenue streams as well. For instance, did you know that US box office numbers for films hardly anything, because they'll make more money in the ancillary markets anyhow? It's the same with video games. And then they have things like product placement, etc. And I don't know about other companies, but EA, who is down the street from me hires kids out of college, underpays them, and works them like a sweatshop until they quit (or at least that's the consensus around here).

So at least I'm paying some chinaman who is at least less likely to be a big corporate fat-cat. I can live with that.

Ok that's my off topic take.

Now let's start talking about installing these damn chips.

I agree with you on this almost 100% except that I am willing to pay the $50 after shipping for my chip considering that is the price of 1 game and I already have 5 games since paying that price. I would much rather pay for the $50 chip that $50 x 5 over priced games.

BTW any update on the clones? If they work I have a buddy that wants me to install one in his Wii cause he is cheap (college student without much cash).

I think people are just mad since they bought an original and you guys bought a clone works exactly the same and a lot cheaper. For me i bought an original. I was going to get a clone but, many of the sites didn't except paypal so thats why i got original. Plus it helps the team, even though they don't deserve it.
