Just installed mine bought from dealextreme into a pal wii and it works fine, updated config with 1.2 disk and as far as I can tell is region free (well cooking mama works) cannot see any reason to pay more for an 'original'
SO????If you don't buy originals, the money goes to the cloning people.
You say to yourself, why do I care? Let me tell you why. These guys worked hard to design and implement this mod, and if you support them, they can continue to function as a business. Part of this support comes back to you, the end user. They have offered to replace non-working chips, have responded to emails from their users, and basically are a crapload less shady than other modchip makers over the years.
If you buy clones, you are basically cockpunching the guy who is making mods possible for you. The guys who make the clones don't give a damn about you.
Wiikey at least has incentive not to piss of a lot of people. Who are you going to get mad at when your clone doesn't work as advertised? YOU DON'T KNOW.
OK, end of rant.
yeah, I noticed that toothe thing I find funny about this topic is that several users getting on their high horse saying "support originals." Yet have modified chips that able them to play pirated copies of original Wii games. Hypocrites.
so 1.2 setup disk works fine with the clones?
I also got a kick out of that. IMHO I'll go with the cheapest option that'll work.the thing I find funny about this topic is that several users getting on their high horse saying "support originals." Yet have modified chips that able them to play pirated copies of original Wii games. Hypocrites.
To everyone who wants to bitch about the ethics of using a cloned chip:
Shut up. In this thread, no one cares about what you think. The topic of the thread is whether or not they are working.
If the topic of the thread was: "Whine here if you don't think it's right to use cloned chips, even though you probably would have bought one if they were available when you got yours, and now you just want to bitch because you think everyone should have to pay as much as you did", then maybe your comments would be appropriate.
And just incase you want my opinion: They overcharge out the ass for these products. $20, for instance, would be a fair price. $50 after shipping is highway robbery. But we'll pay it because it's the price of a game.
They're essentially stealing form Nintendo and developers. But why don't I care? Because they're overpricing the hell out of their games to begin with. 90% of them just aren't worth the money. And I shouldn't have to wait years until they fall to a $20-30 price point. But of course they make it look like they overcharge because of piracy. Sorry guys, we've been paying $50 for lame games since the days of the NES, and piracy wasn't a real issue. We all know 95% of those games weren't worth nearly the price.
Then you'll say "well games cost more to produce". Well sure they do, but there are more revenue streams as well. For instance, did you know that US box office numbers for films hardly anything, because they'll make more money in the ancillary markets anyhow? It's the same with video games. And then they have things like product placement, etc. And I don't know about other companies, but EA, who is down the street from me hires kids out of college, underpays them, and works them like a sweatshop until they quit (or at least that's the consensus around here).
So at least I'm paying some chinaman who is at least less likely to be a big corporate fat-cat. I can live with that.
Ok that's my off topic take.
Now let's start talking about installing these damn chips.
