You probably won't because you have a ntsc format... you may even need to change video format with tv settings...

By the way there is a Linux-Kernel forwarder channel in my signature... It is a must have if you are using this alot...

THX for the channel
smile.gif
. How can I change my TV settings so that it works?

I haven't been able to with my HDTV... I have tried reducing resolution and screen format on the console and can't on the tv settings... so I guess we will have to live with it unless some kind of video patch gets added which I am not even sure that is possible.

Ah, this is the channel I was supposed to help you with. I've only used linux at school, but I'll give this a try (if I ever get some free time, I've been so busy lately

3.2U NTSC Machine

XWhiite installed and worked fine. Keyboard and MS Mouse both worked fine. Definately need someone to compile an NTSC build of it.

Gentoo installed all the way but when it boots I have no I/O. Keyboard,Mouse,WiiMote all unresponsive. Just have to turn off console to exit.

thats odd that gentoo did that I never tried it. I saw that their is a way to make xwhiite work on a ntsc TV, but you have to change xorg.conf in the xwhiite package and I don't know how to do that so can someone help me do that? Also, I saw that windows can be ran on linux. I never heard of it being done on the wii, but it can be done on a computer. Maybe it can also be done on xwhiite and bliight. Here is the computer program that lets you do it CODE http://www.virtualbox.org/
. This works with linux gentoo, mac, and windows. It's also open source, so someone can try to make it work on bliight or xwhiite
smile.gif
. It can make a linux system run a virtual mac/windows

I don't know if Windows would be able to be ran on this.. I don't think there is enough resources... but I guess anything is possible? Maybe an older version of Windows.. not xp or vista for sure..

About changing the xorg.conf... maybe we can do it through ultraedit? What would need to be changed to make it suitable for ntsc? and also.. wander if there is a way to just edit the xorg.conf through the linux that is actually on the Wii? That would be even better because then I wouldn't have to shut windows down and load linux and recopy it to the partition that way... either way... if I get a little extra time to play around with this I could possibly change the xorg.conf and re tar it back and upload it...

Just some thoughts.. .unless someone that has linux as their main os and knows how to do this??

This would make things better for us ntsc'ers.

Thats a good idea, I didn't think of trying to change it through xwhiite, Someone can try to get windows 98 probably to run on xwhiite or bliight using virtualbox, it would be a cool idea. If were lucky, maybe even windows xp could be run using a
hard drive or something. We still need to get xwhiite and bliight to run the internet through the built in wifi card.
EDIT: ok I am running xwhiite on my wii, how do I access and change files in the SD card so that I can try changing the xorg.conf
EDIT EDIT: I was able to change xorg.conf through xwhiite, but when I try to save it, it says "cannot save file changes", I think the only way to do it is to load up Ubuntu on the computer and extract everything, change it, repack everything, and re partition the SD card from the beginning

maybe... you may need to type a command unmounts the root if possible and then it will let you save it.. because I know from ubuntu that any changes to a device have to be done unmounted and you have to type gksudo nautilus.. but I think Wolfgang and I tried something to overwrite the files before and it wouldn't let us do it. So your last edit may be the only way...

are you going to try to do it either way and get back to us?

Well I am new to linux so I don't know the commands or anything lol, but I'll give it a try

As far as Virtualbox, I don't think it runs on ppc processors, and wine can't be run because it uses x86 assembler I think, also, by the time you have X running you simply will not have enough memory to entertaining any other kind of system.

to put this in perspective, I believe bertjan was trying to run damn small linux in a bochs virtual machine and even that running on top of linux was too slow to be used- With only 66 megs of ram you are very limited in what you can run, most of us have had nearly ten times that at least on our computers for years now.

If you're having problems with Bliight starting, make sure you extracted the archive (Bliight-beta-release.tar.bz2) using tar -xjpvf to preserve file permissions so you get the proper /dev nodes for the initial console.

For those still stuck, here is the EXACT /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
that you need for an NTSC system hooked to a normal TV SET:

CODE

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I'm on PAL, this should do though.

So I'm trying to put the nstc mode fix in with xwhiite-linux 0.2. I edited the config file but it won't let me copy the config file back in the tar archive so I can install it with this installer. How do i get the modifed config file in the tar archive? I'm using winrar.

I am not quite the linux expert.. but i do remember seeing a text editor in the xwhiite .2 for the Wii... I am not sure if you have to typer certain commands to be able to right over this and save or not... Someone that may help eventually and tell us the easiest way... for now.. I am waiting for something better to come out after/if Bootmii comes because the linux guys say it will be alot easier to make things work....as in being more compatible with usbwifi, etc. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Can someone post some pictures of this?
Whats the difference between all these versions of linux?
What can they do?

Hi guys, I've just run the installer and formatted a 512MB MicroSD card with a 64MB FAT partition.

The installation went through smoothly.

However, after it rebooted the wii, and i started up my Homebrew Channel, the linux app was not appearing! I added other homebrew apps to the "app" directory of the FAT partition but the Homebrew Channel was still unable to pick up on any of the apps inside

Can anyone help me out here?? Thanks!!
