Gaming Which Winzip?

Hi. My free trial of winzip was over. So I uninstalled it and downloaded a new winzip but it wasnt the one i was looking for.

The one im looking for is the one where you right click on a compressed file and then you click on extract with winzip and then some options come up eg. extract, extract to here, extract to....'. So does anyone know which version of winzip it is?


Btw, Its not winzip 12.1 becuase i downloaded that and its not the on im looking for.

7-Zip has those features and many more, plus doesn't make you click through any nonsense crap because you've been using it too long.

um, use winrar?? when the trial period expires you can still use it, you just have to click cancel on a little box every time you start it

I will second the suggestion to use 7zip, it is the best (windows) decompression utility.

Another vote for 7zip, fantastic compression utility with one little quirk. You 'open with' programfiles/7zip/7zfm.exe

+1 for 7zip. It's free, can handle zip files but also has it's own 7z format which compresses better. it can also open rar files.

Not sure what you mean by the little quirk. Once you set the file association in 7zip file manager under options, it'll open all supported archives by simply double clicking the archive file.

Any recent Winzip will do that, make sure you go to configuration then onto explorer tab and tick enable explorer enhancements.

+1 for 7zip. It's free, can handle zip files but also has it's own 7z format which compresses better. it can also open rar files.

haha - so many applications insist on setting up the associations once you install it, I had simply figured that if it doesn't do it, it has no way of automatically setting up associations.

I will second the suggestion to use 7zip, it is the best (windows) decompression utility.

7 Zip blows, as far as zip files are concerned i let windows handle them, for everything else i use winrar, its faster, stable, better intergration, etc. 7zip is just freeware trash.

but i'll 2nd 7-zip, at least it isn't annoying and it is able to read .rar files

but if u can find a pre-registered version(it should be easy to find, its floating all over the net as long as u know how to google), get that as well

i have winrar for school stuff, and 7-zip for my own personal stuff ;D

some people just prefer to use a program that you don't have to pirate and that is also better.

a lot of open source programs are better than their proprietary equivalents. (pidgin/adium compared to trillian for example)

you know that windows decompresses zip files far slower than winrar? windows crashes when you extract large or to many files, and takes very long, winrar/7zip always works (at least for me)

7-zip also supports multiple cores which can drastically speed things up, especially when compressing. It also has a 64bit native version which can help with larger dictionary sizes with computers that have large amounts of ram.
