I will only use it to play PS3 backups.

- Ferrox 4.82 v1.01?
- Rebug Lite 4.82.2?
- Rebug 4.82.2 (discarded because it has many options that I will not use, more processes to run for the console, more temperature, ...)
- Another?

Thanks!

(I'm assuming you know all this already: your ps3 has to have a firmware lower then 3.55 to install cfw directly .............. any higher then that you need a special tool to flash your ps3 to a lower firmware) ("han" works on all ps3 (4.82), and there's no overheating risk, from the cfw, use a fan mod)

PSN is dead, but my guess is they handle the games that require "reactpsn" which are mostly those games that didn't have a physical release, and also a digital release.

Some ps3 models, have problems with the blu ray disk drive on those firmwares, again depending on your ps3 model...............so its not better or worse, it is what applies to your ps3 model!?

(speaking of overheating)

(I can't decide what is probably better, not using a wireless controller with the ps3, or having to plug in a physical wired controller that draws power! so far I'm just using a wired controller) (but will switch to a ps4 controller, after I disable the internet from the ps3's options once finished with games and updates!)

Where did you read that it has more processes and higher temperatures?

Whether you use bluetooth or usb shouldn't make a noticeable difference to the heat generated in the ps3.

"optical drive emulators" (physical mod chips)

Cobra ODE
Max supported firmware: 4.53 | 4.82 with swap-disk method
3K3Y ODE
Max supported firmware: 4.53 | 4.55 with swap-disk method
E3 Pro ODE
Max supported firmware: 4.53 | 4.66 with swap-disk method

Sony's "Official Firmware 4.60 Update", allowed the usage of the "PS4 Controller", on the PS3 Console. sony pretty much killed the "mod chips", around that time.

*I read something about, some "custom firmware" causing overheating because the ps3's fan was not being increased with increases in temperature ............... there's was some custom software or something for that issue. I can't be sure that, issue is long gone? Anyway.

S.anyway.Right now the weather the ps3 controller is plugged in or used wirelessly, or the PS4 controller, is probably not an issue anymore. a few years ago during the mod chip outing with sony, this game: "Enslaved Odyssey to the West" ... had "controller issues", i think lag controls, probably affected by those series of updates from 4.54 to 4.60 ...

as long as your below 4.53 firmware or above 4.60 firmware, you won't have a problem to worry about? Just some thoughts, but yes, I will disable "internet/network" from the ps3, once finished all game installs and updates, before using a "wireless controller" .................... its probably not enough resources to cause overheating, but if your not going to use it, then-turn-it-off=right?

I wouldn't use wifi anyway as it's too slow, gigabit ethernet is useful for playing movies and games over the network.

I don't think any of your other issues are relevant anymore, at least I haven't come across them and I've still got my cech-200x that I bought 2nd hand in 2010 that has been used with psjailbreak/kmwea/rogero/rebug & is still going strong.

(4.60 update from sony, really ended the mod chips, and you loose too many goodies on that firmware for it to be worth it, in the ps3's lifecycle)

(4.82 update from sony, almost ended "bluray playback":::gbatemp.net/threads/if-your-having-bluray-movie-playback-issues-on-ferrox-cobra-4-82-heres-what-to-do.492558/:::for cfw, possibly bring back overheating issues with the ps3) (IF, your using CFW for the ps3 console)

(4.82 Han since it uses official firmware, doesn't have those risks, that pop up from time to time.................since the ps3 scene isn't dead, I would have to say, good time to get into the ps3 scene with 4.82 firmware, no additional flasher purchases and no brick risks, and no overheating risks..................I like to call the "bluray" problem, the "PS4 4K edition console problem")

(seems to me that sony has twice already, came back and tweaked the ps3, after doing a major hardware upgrade, most recently the PS4 4K MODELS)

(the ps3 scene isn't dead, so why, take the risk, not having the full library of games on the ps3 isn't a problem with han, just about everything but, already 4.84 firmware has been used by the scene ............... not for everyone ................. but i'm sticking with 4.82 han for a while)

Who bothers with mod chips? If you have CFW then you can use cobra.

There was a bug in the cfw that was fixed straight away.

for cfw, possibly bring back overheating issues with the ps3)

Where did that come from?

(4.82 Han since it uses official firmware, doesn't have those risks, that pop up from time to time

Well any issues get fixed & any issues you get will certainly outweigh just how rubbish han is. Consoles have died on official firmware, if you're using han then you can't install a fan control homebrew to prevent it overheating.

I like to call the "bluray" problem, the "PS4 4K edition console problem")

Why? It's just ferrox messing it up.

(the ps3 scene isn't dead, so why, take the risk, not having the full library of games on the ps3 isn't a problem with han, just about everything but, already 4.84 firmware has been used by the scene ............... not for everyone ................. but i'm sticking with 4.82 han for a while)

Right, han is out of date and you miss things like movian & other homebrew.

The PS3 Slim no longer has the "main power" switch like the previous PS3 models - wikipedia ps3 models

"CFW" cannot be installed on the new super slim models, which, regardless of what paid "cfw" trolls have to say, uses less power, and has a less overall overheating fault reports.

My guess is, the ps3 originally had more resources dedicated to power regulation from the "gpu bus(es)". There is a genuine reason, why "CFW and Overheating" are common place for the old model ps3, that can only use CFW.

You can't can reuse the hacks or software because physically, there's no drivers or hardware on the newer models. I think this is the bottom line of what is taking place.

...............
Every PS3 UUSER. in my opinion should use and install "han", and update to official 4.82 firmware, remove the mod chips and remove the "CFW".

If the ps3 unit with CFW installed, with no games playing and nothing running, simply by being powered up. Gets hot after 5 hours of idling, then there is a major problem, that was added to, not originally designed in the sofware.

I don't think a cheap fan software solution for CFW, and CFW only............it helps but thats not the real issue. Seeing 4.82 CFW disable the bluray, and possibly bring back the cfw overheating issues proves it! (I got a super slim, but I wanted to purchase a fat model, anyway, try the idling test yourself with cfw installed, and after 5 hours, make your decision, but first test with just ofw (official firmware installed), let idle for 5 or so hours, then compare, then install 4.82 official firmware, if your convinced!)

That is right, however anyone around during the psjailbreak days probably bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/201502568763?chn=ps
As unplugging the cable every time was boring.

I'm not a paid cfw troll, but I have a cech-200x which hasn't overheated in 9 years.

My guess is, the ps3 originally had more resources dedicated to power regulation from the "gpu bus(es)". There is a genuine reason, why "CFW and Overheating" are common place for the old model ps3, that can only use CFW.

They did a die shrink of the gpu which reduced the power, plus other changes to the board that reduced the heat. The issue is caused by poor soldering which is affected by heat.

Every PS3 UUSER. in my opinion should use and install "han", and update to official 4.82 firmware, remove the mod chips and remove the "CFW".

You are entitled to your opinion, but CFW doesn't cause me any problems and HAN would cause me problems. So I'll stick with what is best.

Seeing 4.82 CFW disable the bluray, and possibly bring back the cfw overheating issues proves it!

4.82 CFW doesn't disable the bluray, what you posted was one specific CFW that had a bug which got fixed.

My ps3 runs CFW and it doesn't overheat. When I was using OFW then the fans came on pretty much the same.

You haven't offered any proof. I wouldn't buy a fat ps3 as they are too fragile, if you want to play ps2 games then just get a ps2. My personal recommendation is the CECH-250x. I have one in a box in case my current one dies. The super slims are too cost reduced.

(the microsoft console xbox 360 was the first in history, that would overheat and need factory servicing, by just putting a 30 or 40 gallon plastic storage container around it.............people boosted about using a plastic bag (you may need to call the fire department in that case, but yes same result)

("cfw and overheating for the ps3 are synonymous" .......................... you can perform any of the tests above with the xbox 360, but I recommend installing "cfw" and letting the ps3 console idle for 5 hours or more, and compare how hot the ps3 console gets, versus a ps3 console unit without "cfw" installed ............... use a thermometer) (you don't even need to use your "han"/don't even need to use your "hand")
