I am new to wii softmodding , but not new to console/handheld modding. I recently decided to softmod my wii using letterbomb. Everything went well. HBC is installed bootmii is installed (could only do the IOS install). Did a NAND backup and installed an NES emu to the SD card.

Problem is I don't really know where to go from here. So i have a few Q's

Should I/do i need to install priiloader?

I want to run wii and GC backups from USB.. whats the easiest , least intrusive and best way to do this (seems like a million options for this).

Any help and pointers in the right direction would be great!!!!

You do not need to install priiloader to use homebrew on your wii, but it can be very useful.
  1. You got a small safety layer incase you got a banner brick when installing a faulty channel.
  2. You can use Wii menu hacks to stop updates from DVD's or Internet, skip "Press A", change positions of the disc channel and even copy copy-protected game saves.
  3. You can replace the system menu using a forwarder.dol pointing to your choosen replacement menu, such as Postloader.
  4. You can password protect your Wii.
Note: Do not install priiloader on a WiiU/VWii, cause that will cause a brick.

If you got a older wii, look if you can install Bootmii in BOOT2(hackmii will tell you), newer wii's have a Boot2 that prevents Bootmii boot2 install, causing you to only be able to use it as IOS.
This will enable you to have System-menu and IOS brick protection (incase those got damaged), given the boot2 bootmii is not removed before ofcourse  .

For your question about playing your wii games from HDD/SDD, you can dump them from your DVD's to your USB Drive using Cleanrip or Wiiflow.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
