I have not once been to a Nintendo Zone. Well, not since the 3DS released; I did go to Nintendo World in New York during the DS era.

When I go to McDonald's or John Wayne Airport, my 3DS's automatically configure themselves for Internet access as if they're in a Nintendo Zone, but the Nintendo Zone app says they're not.

Where am I supposed to go?

    Away from this shithole
I found one in the Milan's main train station, but it never works. Also in the airport, that (sort of) worked. Haven't seen anything else in 4 years.

Except that I really want that new theme they've released that you can only get from Nintendo Zones.

BestBuy sometimes has them in Canada. One or two EB Games (GameStop) I've been to have also had Nintendo zones, but it seems to be more rare for some reason.

Helpful for those in or near the Great White North... Except I'm in Southern California >.<

I'll try Worst Buy here and some other McDonald's.

Here's the big part I don't understand: When I'm at a McDonald's, I starting getting a bunch of Miis from around the world. It's acting like a Nintendo Zone, but the Nintendo Zone program says that it's not a Nintendo Zone! >.<

No, it's just a StreetPass relay enabled Wi-Fi hotspot.
A Nintendo Zone actually has the Nintendo Zone software, and thus, lets you use Nintendo Zone.
I think you also have to go into the Nintendo Zone app and enable Nintendo Zone.

Why don't you just use homepass? I've managed to connect to a 'nintendo zone' and i live in the middle of a desert probably thousands of miles from the nearest actual nintendo zone lol

I guess Nintendo wants us to travel to 50 different stores of each of the retailers, since there is no labeling or listing whatsoever of which ones have a real Nintendo Zone as opposed to merely a StreetPass relay >.<

    I'll try Worst Buy tomorrow.

I'm on a macbook so I think we've got the easiest method

basically I just connect my laptop to the internet using an ethernet cable

then turn on wi-fi sharing from the settings and change the SSID to NZ@McD1 and make sure there's no security settings on and that's it, nintendo zone should work on your 3DS

though you're not gonna get any streetpass tags unless you manually spoof your wi-fi card's MAC address to one from this list

if you're on a PC/linux or any other device then I suggest you look through the main thread

Create you a simple, take it everywhere portable Nintendo Zone with an:

    TP-Link TL-MR3020 Portable (30 Bucks)

    and DD-WRT from
    ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas//2015/04-09-2015-r26653/tplink_tl-mr3020

configure the Router via the DD-WRT Router Interface (after the flash it is mostly 192.168.0.1)... it is done in 5-10 minutes...
..the Wifi-Network name needs to be
and NO password should be set.

open a terminal on mac or command in windows...now telnet into the Router and paste this into command or terminal and press enter...and wait some minutes.

After you notice that your portable Nintendo Zone is working, log into the Router again and setup an mac filter with the Mac of the 3DS and your device that connects to the router to configure it (your PC/Notebook).

    Now you are ready.
    Be Happy :)

There is insufficient time to acquire one of these before the theme disappears for good and the only people who have it are on firmware versions that cannot decrypt it. I'm trying to archive it.

I've now been to four McDonald's and two Worst Buys and none of them are Nintendo Zones.

I have a 2DS that can run the latest version with rxtools, but it doesn't have a NNID... if you can supply instructions I'll help

As for OP's question, the Nintendo Zone whitelist contains SSIDs which are preconfigured but not Zones, click "available" and look at the last column there: http://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/3ds_nzonehotspots.php
