It seems that every year a new R4 card comes out. 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, etc. I just want to know the difference between all of them, and how they're used differently.

I don't really know besides maybe a firmware update. I've stuck with my two R4i Gold 3DS (RTS) carts for $17 each, and they serve me well.

The difference is the expiration date.

They never REALLY brick themselves. All you have to do is change your system's date.

They have expiration dates? Never knew that to be honest. What if a new firmware and/or kernel came out?

It won't let you use it.

Pick a card using the flowchart I made in the ds tutorial section

The card just looks at the system time and refuses to boot if it's past the "Expiration"date. I guess they want you to buy more flashcards.

Haha. In all seriousness the difference is probably very small kernel patches and a sticker.
