i've run into a new trojan called webscv32. it uses msn messenger to send msg's to people on your contact list.

i tried to use avg and comodo antivirus but both could not detect it.

however the comodo firewall did pick it up and i deleted it manually. even now i'm not sure if i got all of it.

could someone recomend a good antivirus?

Common sense?
Failing that, Nod32 is probably your best option.
AVG and Avast! are both free and run very well too.

Antiviruses aren't the only thing though. You'll want to have anti-spyware software and do occasional scans.
For that I suggest you use Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware.
Spybot has a nice resident which stops all suspicious running processes which helps keep viruses from running amok on your PC.

avg 7 was pretty amazing. however avg 8 has failed me repeatedly.

i think i'm going to use a combination of

avast antivirus
comodo firewall
adaware for spyware etc
and ofcoarse windows uac.

i agree common sense and carefull surfing work the best. however a lot o fmy friends don't know jack about computers. everytime i chat or recieve an email from them i have a new virus.

I strongly recommend Kaspersky! 2008 or 2009, it doesn't matter really, same database anyway. It really feel that your really safe when using it so you actually FEEL it, lol.

I don't believe there will ever be such thing as a good anti-virus program. As long as there are people who make viruses, there will always be someone trying to bypass some anti-virus computer, because they shouldn't be trying to kill other peoples's computers.

NOD32 seems to have beaten Kaspersky for the best Antivirus but I still think either is fine.

And if you downloaded a small file that might contain a virus, always use this site to make sure before opening it.
www.virustotal.com
It scans the file with all Antivirus products on the market and it's always up to date.

My favourite anti-virus itìs AVG free edition because it offers a good protection without being heavy on your system (like McAfee or Norton)

OMG i tried avira and i was appauled (spelling?).

it has a good detection rate but fi a virus has managed to multimply there isn't an option to remove all together. you have to click yes for each one seperately. i have since moved back to avg but with comodo firewall.

all is now well
