Basics

Jailbreaking is the process of removing the hardware restrictions on Apple's iOS on devices that are running it through software exploits. Devices compatible include the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Apple Watch, and 2nd Generation Apple TV. Jailbreaking allows root access to the iOS file system and manager, allowing the download of unsupported applications, extensions, and themes that are not on the Apple App Store. Jailbreaking is a form of privilege escalation and the term has been used to describe privilege escalation on devices by other companies as well. Restoring a device with iTunes completely removes the jailbreak.

In a nutshell
You get to have themes, free apps, cool features, and look cool. B-)

Reasons to jailbreak
One of the reasons for jailbreaking is to expand the features of your iDevice and bypass the limit set by Apple. Apple often bans apps from the app store, but with jailbreaking there is always a way to get access to the banned apps like Flappy Bird. Also we have awesome emulators like DS, GBA, GBC, GB, N64, SNES, NES, and many more.

Bad side to jailbreaking
Now with every good thing in life there are very bad things to. When jailbreaking any warranty on your iDevice is void. If something does happen to your jailbroken iDevice and you want to repair it with Apple then simply go to iTunes connect your iDevice click backup and then hit restore. Now when you take it to Apple they will never know a thing. Now time to explain a big bad side to jailbreaking. If you are not careful enough with your jailbreak then malware can easily get to your iDevice. To avoid this simply get tweaks from trusted sources.

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
