I've heard both exfat and fat32.

I'm confused, which one should I put it in? when I put the exfat sd card in my stock switch with no hacks or anything, it says system update required, and when I did that, it still said its not able to recognize it. What should I do?

Fat32 supports blocks up to 4 gb, exfat is unlimited. Since games are up to 16 gb, I run exfat.

Not even a question, exfat for sure.
I am not a fan of multifile game entries, that basically gives more chance for things to cause issues.

But when I put the exfat sd card into my stock switch in general, it asks for an update and then fails to recognize it. I haven’t gotten my SXOS setup so im not sure how it’ll work out on that, but I’m worried I’ll have the same issue.

exfat for sure, so far largest size of a switch game is 28gb

I did, and it’s still giving me error, it’s not able to recognize it. I’ll try again tonight with an empty SD card

Up above you talk about a update did you do it? To get EXFat working I believe you have to follow update prompt on switch then it will allow you to download update for EXFat cards. So there is two updates if I remember right (or just 1 if on current os)

Speaking of which, what benefits are there for staying on 4.1.0?

I too had the formatting update issue, but I don't have SX OS or anything yet. I have just been playing around with the BotW saves for now. I also couldn't back up my NAND for obvious reasons on FAT32.

It depends on what you want to be doing...

Im on 3.02 and don't ever want to update, Im waiting to Emunand, so my M-SD card has to be formatted to Fat32 without updating the console...

If you do the update then you should use exFat.

Im pissed is that I bought a Sandisk A1 128GB yesterday for 39.99€, I opened it today, I was getting near 90MB\s read, after formatting the SD card, now I only always get constant 20MB\s stable from start to end. It doesn't even matter formatting to fat32, NTFS, exFat, the speed is locked t 20MB\s, its probably the god damn SD port reader on my laptor, I can't say I ever had any laptop with the SD port working 4 ever, they all give a huge god damn amount of problems.

My father laptop SD port is also screwed, it locks every device from writing, my USB adapter is USB2.0 so I can't get much better speed either, screw this...

I have my card in exfat and the Nintendo OS gives me an error yet I just hit back and SX OS still reads the card fine and loads games.

You have to be on latest firmware and apply the ExFAT update when it asks you to after inserting the card.

That is the biggest cart. But L.A. Noire is even bigger, requires you to download and after that it is 29GB.
