Hacking What exactly is "realtime saving"?

I would guess that the save is saved directly to the memory card.

I know on my old M3, when I saved, it saved to the M3's internal memory. Then upon a reboot, it moved the save from the internal memory to the memory card.

So if I don't have to reboot and deal with that EEPROM saving stuff like on the DS-X, and it actually saves when it says it does, that's realtime saving?

Like the R4 would have realtime saving right?

As you save your game, it's actually written onto the cart (in real time). With some older cards (G6 Lite) it loads the save data into the RAM and then writes it to the cart when you next turn on your DS.

I'm fairly sure that they don't mean that in the CycloDS menu.

edit: noticed he wasn't talking about cyclo evo. Woops

Real time saveing refers to save states. A save state is basically a complete snapshot of everything that is going on in the system at that point. If you can save this information and restore it later, you can save and load a game at any point during gameplay regardless of whether on not the game would normally allow that.

Currently, no flashcart can do this with DS games. The CycloDS Evolution claims it as one of its features, but it is not supported on the current firmware.
