Official Nintendo's SDKs and tools don't use NDS format, they use SRL. What does this format stand for? I've been researching about this format and I only know that it's the official format and that it is like an encrypted NDS. But what is this formst's meaning?

Doesn't mean anything and there's no need to. There are MILLIONS of file formats that mean nothing or are actually weird plays on their meaning. It's just a random format for Dump files, that's all. Why do you go and look into things like that instead of doing something more productive?

It's probable that this format means nothing, but I think that Nintendo's official tools and formats usually mean something. In 3DS, almost all (Nintendo's) formats mean something, so I keep thinking that this format should have a meaning. For example, CCI, which is one of the original formats of 3DS ROMs, means CTR Cart Image, like CIA means CTR Importable Archive... (there are so many)

Actually I'm doing totally more productive things, but this is a doubt I've had for a long time

I think the S stands for Signed, but IDK about the RL.

srl is more or less the official name for the format. parts of it might be encrypted compared to "nds", I don't remember. sort-of like how cci is the real name for 3DS cartridge dumps, but everyone uses ".3ds".

I've tested some SRL ROMs on flashcarts and emulators, and (most of them) work perfectly. I've noticed that they have a few different things, but they're almost the same (NDS and SRL). Also, I think that the R from SRL could stand for ROM, but no idea.

It could very well be an inside joke too though if it does mean something, so there's always that possibility, would certainly not be a first.

SRL is a Nintendo Dump file, meaning it's literally the same thing as NDS, just with different container, nothing more and nothing less.
