Hacking What does it mean when a wad/vc game is "proper"

I am slightly confused on this subject matter.

i think it means when its signed without some n00b putting his own name in the game somewhere, i havnt been on the VC scene for some time tho

a *PROPER* release is issued by a group when the original release is found to be incorrect or "not OEM". Some games may be dumped and put out on the internet before the game goes "gold" (going gold means that the last build of the game is what will be put on store shelves) and therefore may not have all the full content of a store bought release. This is one of the reasons a *PROPER* version of a game may be released.

I thought PROPER was the name of the group that released the game , for example , theres another group that calls themselves the wii_realease_team

I assumed it was a release group as well, though its certainly possible I was mistaken.
