I've been doing my research and was going to purchase the instinct until I saw complaints that it was easy to short the pads on the chip due to build quality issues. I have also seen the picofly kits available but I am not sure what the difference between those chips and the current pico fly that is out for free right now. I am leaning towards the HWfly since I have not read of any issues.

Instinct NX and HWfly isn't sold anymore.
Plus for the oled, you need either the reball adapter or the dat0 ankor (they release a v5 now!)

There is some copies floating around, but nothing on the official hwfly store.

I am seeing them listed on aliexpress. What happened to the official hwfly store? Not sure what the recall adapter is. What I saw is that these new chips include a dat adapter that doesn't need a recall.

they still sell but you need to message them on aliexpress to get a private link to the chips

Picofly is just the name of the firmware. Find a chip like the rp2040 zero for example and use it

Hey everyone, what's your recommended modchip for Switch OLED, a black Instinct-NX chip (v6) or Hwfly v4/v5? I'd post images, but I can't yet.

Is the black Instinct chip better than the white one? Is the issue with ground being too close to the soldering pads resolved with the black version PCB?

And which dat0 adapter to get?

Thanks!

What is the difference between picofly that will soon be available on Ali, and the home made pico fly that people on here use as of now?

The DIY picofly with an rp2040-zero requires you to add 47ohm resistors to the clk/cmd/dat0 points and remove the usb connector and buttons from the rp2040 for it to fit in the switch. You will also either have to get an irfhs8342 mosfet to connect to the apu, or get a hwfly cpu flex cable.

The aliexpress-supplied picoflies will come with a hwfly cpu flex cable, have the right resistors pre-attached, and be thin enough out of the box.

Thanks for your help. Really good explanation. is HWFLY the golden standard still?

Picofly can do everything hwfly can do and then some (automatic timing adjustment and reset on boot failure, for instance). I'm pretty sure only picofly-based chips will be available fairly soon.
