So this is a problem i rarely found any information about and if i did there was never a solution to my knowledge.

So this first occured when i started disc 2 and was outside of Treno with Dagger, Steiner and Marcus grinding on
those green enemies that used chestnut, i died because i missclicked a command leading to the battle falling
to pieces then i realized i didn't save and was sent back to my last save point at the train station before the black waltz fight,
i was angry and in a fit of rage and i decided to at least play up to where i was save it and call it a day, i walked up to
the moogle and i got kicked out of retroarch and into project eris, upon booting the game back up, i was on disc 1 at the
entrance at Gizamaluke's Grotto?? i went to sleep and came back to the game the next day.

i played up to Cleyra then saved at the moogle and turned it off until the next day, now here's where i know for SURE i wasn't tweaking:
i picked back up where i was at Cleyra the next day and played all the way up to the part where Lina the bounty hunter is introduced
as you know from there you're told to go to the outer continent and have to go through qu's marsh first, and since dagger was level 15
i wasn't about to progress with her so low so i got quina and went back to Gizamakluke's Grotto to do the Grand Dragon limit glove
exploit to get dagger up in level's fast, as soon as i encountered a Grand Dragon, my game crahsed just like before, and this time
my girlfriend was there to see that i saved THREE times before doing the exploit just to make sure i didn't mess up the process and die.

and sure enough my progress was gone, I'm all the way back at Cleyra before the antlion boss.

Extra info:
I'm using a 64gb external USB
A usb extension (so i don't have to plug the former in slot 2 controller port)
and a HDMI to composite converter that was reccomended by a user in a thread i made here:

Because it's emulation, it could be anything. If it's not a bug, it's usually file corruption, whether it's something in the emulator, ROM, or the storage device it's on.
  • It could be a bug in the emulator. Try another beside Eris.
  • Retroarch could be the issue. Try copying the Retroarch files again, maybe from a different date/build.
  • It could be the USB storage. Format another USB and copy everything over from the old one.
  • There may be an issue with the disc image. Scan the file and compare the hashes (e.g., CRC32, SHA1, MD5, etc.) with what databases have for that disc http://redump.org/discs/quicksearch/final-fantasy-ix/sort/languages/

it IS patched with a rom hack to make the ATB gauge more in line with FF7's speed so that probably could be it, as i know patching roms can change the hashes

That may be an issue. Even if there is no bug in the patch or ROM, the emulator could be handling it incorrectly.

one major thing im confused about is just the PS1 classic as a whole like i hear that this could be a power related issue similar how one would need a specific usb for the wii u, and while i have the appropriate USB and properly formatted, i've also been told that autobleem is better than project eris, like am i going crazy or is there just alot of back and forth with this kinda thing with modding the ps1 classic as it's no wonder why i often have the issues i have with it
