HD-DVD is better only for the fact that it is region free, probably not a big issue for all you Americans on here but it is a massive issue for others.

Region-coding on Blu-rays sucks arse.

In the end that's all I really care about as I've got both the HD-DVD addon and a PS3 so I'm covered either way.

blu ray will also lose eventually. DVD is still a good media and you can get upscalers to play DVDs at 1080p. Also who wants to rebuy all their DVD collection on blu ray.

That's the same as saying who wants to rebuy all their VHS collection in DVD.
DVD was a major step up from VHS

You know what pisses me off about blu ray?
not only are they needlessly attempting to split the market, they drag other shit into it too, like the shape of the boxes, so your dvd shelves can get fucked too as far as sony cares.

Same BS as with VHS boxes. That has got to be the most ridiculous reasoning ever, go make another shelf or something. And HD not a major step from DVD? Going by your comments, did you even ever watch a HD movie on a big screen LCD? Eventually the whole mainstream is going to buy flatscreens, it's already happening. With the prices dropping this can only happen alot faster. I believe it will only take about 3-4 years before Blu-ray (if it wins) will be in the same boat DVD is today. That is prices of under 15 bucks and Blu-ray players around 100 bucks. By that time I'm hoping to have saved enough money to buy me a nice projector and surround sound set to get my own theater room. Fact is we will always do everything before the rest, but they will follow on a fast rate.

And people saying it'll take 10 years need to get their minds checked. By that time we will be long done with our PS3 (360 even sooner) and we'll be in what another format war, or if Blu-ray is the success Sony hopes for we will evolve from that. And you think Nintendo will stay SD? Fuck no, it'll probably be 2 maybe 3 years before they step their game up, what do you think those 20 million wii players will do then? Keep playing Carnival Games?

BD win is a logical step.
I prefer HD DVD, because it is the logical itteration from DVD.
Blu-Ray again is a special format by Sony and some followers.
I am not surprised that the media industry want to support BD, because it is just so much better to manage their rights as HD DVD could do. There is so much stuff inside the BD-specification that let the ***** the consumer somewhere the sun never shines ;-)
Go ahead...BD either you win, or all gets lose.
Well I can live without supporting all those BD followers. From now on I wont buy WarnerBrother DVDs or even BD (I never will).
If there is a decent HD DVD...I gonna buy it for the good sake.

VHS-DVD was a far bigger step than DVD to HD, no matter how you try to argue it, no more rewinding and fastforwarding, tons of bonus features, trailers, etc with just about every single movie.
and HD brings exactly what new to the table?
HD?

FUCK HD

I don't give a fuck about HD, I really just don't.
Yes we already have a nice big LCD tv with an HD player but I just don't care, it really means shit all to me and there is absolutely no way in hell I'm buying any HD crap until they stop making SD stuff.
what more do you want me to say? I just don't give a fuck about the "new 3D"
*leaves*

I think eventually all disc formats will disappear in the coming years. DVD is going to disappear as well as Blu Ray. In a few years we only download stuff or have chip-based media. Rotating parts will be to expensive to manufacture in the future as chips get cheaper and cheaper. That's my bet. See you in a few years

with HD DVD you have the internet connectivity, which falsely is often considered for DRM only. But this is mainly a feature.
You could realize a lot of interactivity for the consumer here. It's like the few games which came as a bonus to few of the first video dvds.
But if nobody uses/implements/advertises this feature, of course nobody is gonna remind it.

Your such an HD-DVD fanboy. I'm being 100% honest here. It's kinda sad when people can't accept the thing they like isn't going to win.

I am sure, I said somewhere, this is my opinion. But why do you say I am a fanboy? because of the Internet feature clarification?

what's you point anyhow?

Blu-Ray profile 2 supports internet connectivity. And both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray use AACS for rights management.

The main difference, aside from studio support, is the storage size (which Blu-Ray wins out on). They use the same video codecs, same DRM, and are very similar as far as capabilities (although BR can output slightly higher specs).

Aside from being region free, HD-DVD has no advantage over Blu-Ray.

I'll leave this be as I had no point.
Anyway BM that's good news imo. Not Only will PS3 owners benefit if Blu-ray really does win, Xbox 360 owners will too as IIRC they said they would make a blu-ray drive if it won.

OMG HD-DVD WARZ R OVARZ - who cares, VHS all the way baby, it has better features than all of them COMBINED. It has this stuff in it called tape, and it HOLDS IMAGES THAT WHEN PLAYED TOGETHER FORM A COMPLETE SCENE. It totally blew my mind. Honestly, there is no point to any of this, all physical media is basically on the way out.
