Hacking Walk With Me Not Working

I cannot seem to get Walk With Me working with the latest version of Sakura or Touchpod. It cannot see the activity meter when it asks to hold down the button for 1 second when you register a new player.

Is there any kind of missing hardware from the original cart or should I be able to do this?

It's not working because you actually need the Activity Meter, which is a pedometer that you put into your pocket to count your steps.
I think Walk With Me will never work on a flashcard because the original cart has a chip integrated to communicate with the Activity Meter to transfer data.
