Have you tryed a system restore to the most recent time it wasn't working.

hmm a system restore eh? well to be honest, unless i set it back a month, and i'm not sure what that might reverse :S

All you really have to lose is changes made to your system's settings. System Restore doesn't delete your saved files.
One thing, I doubt it's relevant though... have you done a registry clean before? Maybe that's the cause.

That's a good point. Have you tried using CCleaner? http://www.ccleaner.com/

Make sure to clean the registry as well.
