I’ve had trouble getting it to work
And I'm having trouble understanding the problem. :ha:

If you're expecting someone to help you with that, then you're going to have to go into some more detail about what you've tried to do and what happened when you tried it.

It says when I type (brew install ffmpeg) (zsh: command not found: brew)

The brackets are just to separate
Once you install homebrew, It does tell you to re-open a new terminal window. After that, you will be able to use homebrew (the brew command), to install ffmpeg and use it to convert your files as described in that 3ds mp4 video player.

If you never installed brew in the first place, then you will need to do that at https://brew.sh/ .
Yeah, the howto guide does say to install brew first at that website. It may very be they also just forgot to actually install it.
Handbrake have a version for Mac and they have a built in preset for the 3ds specifically.

I completely forgot about Handbrake! Actually, it may just be a better way for you, as it has an interface for that, instead of having to type commands with the terminal. Using ffmpeg ain't complicated in your case as you already have the right command available, but Handbrake may be even more intuitive.
