Anyone use any cheap upscalers they can recommend? From what I can find its either dirt cheap and shit (potentially non-working) or mid-priced and shit or expensive and great.

I want a solution that is mid-priced and good. I don't need frame perfect upscaling.

my new tv doesn't go lower than 480i so some menus work but in game, fails hard core. this means my genesis, snes, n64, dreamcast, psx are unplayable on my new tv for right now :(

Not exactly, no. Unfortunately, when it comes to upscalers, there's no real middle "sort of cheap and mostly good" option, you're basically stuck with either using cheap trash or expensive and good, which is mostly disappointing.

Pretty much the only two options you have if you want something that isn't utter garbage is the XRGB Mini Framemeister, which is like $350 or so IIRC, or the Open Source Scan Converter which is around $200, but is never ever in stock.

If you're willing to scrounge around ebay, you might find one of the older XRGB upscalers from Micomsoft that will work well too but even then you're looking at at least $200.

And then, of course, you can simply try and find a CRT TV to dedicate all of your retro consoles to. Most of the time you can find some good models that people are literally just giving away, and if not half the ones being sold are going to be super cheap.

Second on this. I got my Triniton CRT for free and it's a beauty for old consoles.

my only problem with crt is the size - i do not have room for it :(

i think im going to throw away a few bucks on the cheaper end option and see how that works for me. i really don't play much and emulate for the most part.

im leaning towards just selling again and going towards a minimal setup. this would make the 3rd time though lol
