when Nintendo originally release this on the VC, it was fixed up a bit compared to its N64 counterpart, it ran at a smooth framerate, suppose you could say it was overclocked. Nintendo wanting to make sure everything on the VC was as authentic as the real thing experience then updated the game to bring back the frame rate and such back closer to the N64 original, suppose you could call it a "downdate". Suprising stuff really, can hardly imagine an army of Star Fox fans complaining they fixed the framerate and wanted it back to being unsteady
