hey i have a idea i would like to bring up for the site if i could is there a way for someone to make like a user rating level you know like have stars or something that you could rate a user/member of the site the more raitings the user has the more likley he is to advance in rank but not judge solely on that other quilties to ?

The only thing that would come from that idea is an inflated ego and it wouldn't properly show a members worth. I am pretty much a non-entity on the site, and despite the fact that I am liked/known reasonably well, I would have very few likes which would not exactly be truthful to my actual worth. It is simply another ego inflating feature and while the user titles don't necessarily show if a member is useful, it shows how well he is known, which is essentially what you are aiming for.

Yeah we don't really need this sort of thing here, having a likes system is bad enough already (many staff were against it). But at least with our likes system unlike others you can only vote peoples posts up and the likes level is secret and only accessible by staff. Otherwise it would be just as unbearable as other systems and it would lead to epeen whoring.

at least with likes you can just click the 'Like' button on a post your like, instead of replying a one-word post such as "+1" or "^" or "^ this" or "^ what he said" etc.

^What he, and everyone else said.

Medals are our sort of way to do that. If you have a nice amount of medals, (Postcount.) it says you either are helpful or you're a very opinioned person. If you weren't, and were a spambot you'd be gone already.

Variable user-rating levels would just be subject to abuse, as people would use just because they like or dislike a guy.

Also, take a Bonemonkey for example. He was funny (kinda), everybody loved him- That'd let him have a ridiculously high rating level.

Would've that meant he was a good user? Even Mod-material, at that? Nope. :P

There'd be no 6 out of 5 stars rating for me so I don't support this.

But in all seriousness many people would be subject to just getting other members to trash/inflate their/someone else's rating. We have likes and reputation is earned and known around websites, not dictated by a rating.

No need. I think medals work just fine.

Medals aren't even a status symbol, they only show how much you've posted or as an easy way to identify staff. I don't show any more or less respect for someone with three blue medals compared to one green one (not the Global Mod one, the newbie one). We have retards here with thousands of posts and intelligent members with a lot less, and trust me, I notice it every single day.
