so if its still there, there no way to re-add the same serial on the same switch?
Well, if your prodinfo is corrupted to the point that you can no longer boot you can use https://github.com/CaramelDunes/prodinfo_gen to fix it.

Unbanning or restoring online functionality would require certificates that only Nintendo can generate.

Also, we currently don't have a way of computing the original serial number from hardware fuses, but this is not very important.

Well, if it is not even booting, you probably did it something wrong as the whole purpose of https://github.com/PabloZaiden/deviceid-exosphere-builder is to make your console boot. Is it stuck on the Nintendo Switch logo? Are you using the atmosphère version matching the one of your custom exosphère?

The prodinfo is what makes a console unique. When Nintendo decides to ban someone, they probably revoke some, or all, of the certificates that are contained in that prodinfo. The console verifies that the device id of the prodinfo matches the one from fuses at boot. Once you spoof that device id and it's booted, you could theoretically use the prodinfo as-is and connect to online services.

I never said unbanning was easy as this requires another, not banned, prodinfo. Nobody's gonna buy a new console to unban a previous one.
it was simple for the 3ds cause we had a bit more control over the system and also cause they banned only the friend code seed which is replacable now they could've perm banned the ssame way the switch is and that would've stayed perm but they screwed up on the 3ds.

the serial printed on the console frame itself? and you would need to remake a cert?

So why exactly can't you spoof a different prodinfo? Are there other checks it does when you go online that can't be changed?

I remember sometime ago HBG would be asking for users willing to give away prodinfos... why would they want them??? i guess they would load them on to switchs to download games they would buy with donations. So it may be possible to do...

I highly doubt that considering its HBG. What is more than likely is they wanted to continue abusing CDN downloading which is in fact not actually dead. Its just that CDN downloaded requires tokens which there is no public tool available to generate. The scene prefers to keep it that way to prevent the public from abusing CDN downloading because the public should not have access to CDN downloading.
