Hacking USBLoader GX: DSI Error on HDD Mounting

When I launch USBLoader GX through the forwarder or from HBC it loads until it reaches the USB device stage "Loading Resources" and then it gives me a DSI exception error. I can get around the issue by disconnecting the HDD and then launching USBLoader and then manually initializing it afterwards. But naturally this is rather inconvenient.
I didn't used to have this issue, it came up after I updated some things recently. I believe it was right after I updated software in order to play GameCube games. I am using DIOS MIOS and USBLoader for that purpose.

My Wii is currently in use so I can't get at all the data relevant for this but I recently updated USBLoader GX during my efforts to fix the problem so I should already be on the latest-as-of-writing version. I guess that was a month ago. I'll get some data for you once my family stops watching Netflix.

During my searching I saw someone mention that DSI errors could be caused by USBLoader trying to access the HDD when it isn't mounted. There was no additional information and I haven't been able to find out anything more about it but it sounds just like my issue since it works fine if I disconnect the HDD.

Edit:
Just noticed that when I boot from either HBC or the forwarder the DSI error occurs at "Loading Resources" not "Initializing USB Device" not sure how I got that wrong. Maybe it changed when I updated to the latest version a while back?
