Im sorry, Im sure this has probably been asked many times before.. but still.

Im new to the whole USB Loader thing (I didnt have a HD till yesterday, and frankly couldn't be bothered to read about something I couldn't have).

So I was wondering.
Is there anyway to launch media (ie. Video, Audio files) off the USB Hard Drive? Perhaps though channel like MPlayerWii?

Thanks in advance.

Not in WBFS mode though, if I'm not mistaken.

WBFS only works with the USB Loader

Correct me if I'm wrong, but dont think.

i think you're right. the partition i use in mplayer is fat32. don't know about other file systems. i'm pretty sure WBFS is not supported though... i think when the last version of mplayer released wbfs didn't even exist

no, but just split partition your drive

i've got my drive split 50/50 WBFS for games and FAT32 for media.

both work fine

edit - yer as thc420 says use GeexboX over Mplayer_ce it seems to deal with 2 partitions better than mplayer.

Geexbox can support NTFS too and recognized the format on the second partition (I made a wbfs, ntfs, fat32 and fat16 in that order) and I watch entire xvid movie rips I made from dvds @ 768 video 192 audio and they stream fine with the new usb 2.0 and look great on a 32" hd with components.

Watchin The Warriors right now

I am currently using a 250GB external harddrive 3.5" with 2 partitions. 1 formatted wbfs and the other formatted fat32 for mplayer ce v4 and they both work fine reading the correct partition.

hope this helps.

I created a NTFS partition on my hard drive but MPlayerWii CE can't detect it (well nothing comes up when I click load from USB).
Windows didn't seem to give me the option to format to fat32.
Do I have to make the Media partition a primary partition? Or am I doing something else wrong?
My firmware is 4.0 (although I have everything enabled and junk).

Use GeeXbox instead. I've been using since I first installed the homebrew channel months ago watching movies off of my flash drive. It has a very slick interface.

I should do, I know.
However, I've always had trouble launching the GeeXboX (in that I can't).
It gives me a very fast scrolling error that says something along the lines of (if I can remember correctly):

"SQUASHFS: error (unable to read page)"

Its very annoying, and I can't really find any useful solution to it online.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.
