Oh really? Then I've done it wrong many times. Ok, I will try that as well.

EDIT: Oh man, you were correct. The solution was to just set it to "Disc Default". :wtf:
Feel stupid for having forced PAL in the past. Thanks a lot!

Cyan, (Or anyone) Mind having a look at my problem?
Trying to launch games from a flashdrive using USB Loader GX on a vWii (Wii U), as soon as I hit (Play) the screen goes black, no sound, wiimote disconnects and the console needs to be hard rebooted.

Won't launch any PAL, NTSC U or NTSC J games. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

what happens if you disable "Dol Video patch" ?
did you try, or set the path to all right away ? that option should be used only in last resort.

no game are working at all ?
All your setup is fine except that dol video patch option. so first disable it.

it seems the issue could be the device itself, flashdrives are not a good choice on wii and wiiu. they have issues.
Try another flashdrive, or better try an external hard drive.

also, you should use slot250 instead of 249. it has better compatibility with games (when it works :p)

Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yes sorry, I had tried without dol patch enabled, and had the same result.
I've now tested with both the loader and game ios set to 250, usb loader worked like normal but games still won't start.

I'm attempting to use a 500GB Astone external harddrive with a y shaped usb cable. I've freshly formatted it using FAT32, and loaded several games onto it, and got an odd result; usb loader initialized the device but detected no games, and displayed "0.19gb free of 0.19gb" - odd because the HDD is 500gb, so clearly it's not being read properly. I'm still working on this and will see if I can get it to read the device correctly, advice welcome :D

Just to confirm, no games are working at all! Once I have the 500GB HDD working I'll try to burn a game from it's physical disk to the HDD and then launch it though USB Loader. hopefully that will shed some light on the issue.

Thanks again, cheers

go to settings > hdd menu > clicl on the first option to scroll between all existing partition.
it looks like your hdd has a small hidden partition (0.19gb)

or maybe the disk is encrypted with the manufacturer's tool (seagate or WD), or just need a refresh in the menu to force the partition detection after using a different drive.

Last edited by Cyan,
Oh, I had no idea that option was there, that worked to show the games list.
And even better switching to the HDD solved the black screen issue as well! Awesome!
So I can now run all the games I've tested so far.

Thanks so much for your help Cyan :D

Sorry I posted a question here and realised it's not the done thing... so deleted it and will start a thread with my own question...

Got a bit of a baffling problem.

I had USB Loader GX working fine previously, on two different storage devices.

I went to a friend's house with my Wii and it stopped working...! It would boot up the loader, it would show my games, but on trying to run a game, it would have the dreaded black screen and controller desync.

Panicking, I took it home and worried I had broken something physical.

I've reinstalled USB Loader GX, reformatted the drives and reloaded the software using Wii Backup Manager. The drives were formatted to NTFS.

Curiously, I have now got it working again by formatting the smaller drive to WBFS. Anyone have any clue if there's something I'm doing wrong/what changed that the previously working drives don't work anymore?

EDIT: I seem to have fixed it by re-installing d2x-cios v8, which is really curious as now I have no idea how it broke. >_>;

I think it never broke.
the problem was probably your friend's console setup (maybe you plugged in the wrong USB Port, which can list games but can't launch them), or maybe he had a wrong cIOS setup, or you brought only the games and not your settings (on SD?) and used his own settings which were wrong (video mode, debug mode enabled, etc.).
You talked about wiimote unsync, so I highly suspect his console used a badly installed cIOS, or he still had a very old cIOS rev20 instead of d2x. rev20 is known to have that symptom : black screen + wiimote unsync or lag.

WBFS partition format is not necessary, you could have used your NTFS (or FAT32), you probably just needed to force a partition refresh because after formatting it the loader might have the old partition info in memory. (settings>hdd settings>click first option to force a partition refresh)

@Cyan I see you seem to be the guru for Wii hacking on this forum, any ideas? I have spent sooo many hours trying to get this dang thing to work...

any idea to what? that's your first post in this thread, you didn't tell what problem you had nor what your setup nor what you tested.
Ahh maybe .. wait ...
333970-CrystalBall1.gif

... HDD ...... Video mode....debug mode..... USB Port ...... cIOS .....

yeah, that's it. It's either hardware issue, video mode, wrong USB Port, debug enabled without a dubugger plugged, or an outdated or wrong cIOS version/base for a specific game.

you need to test ANOTHER thing to narrow the issue.
Test another HDD to check if it's caused by your HDD.
Test playing from disc instead of USB to see if the problem is your USB port, or HDD format.
You don't use Flash drive, right? because if you do, it's like you are begging to get problems, you might like having issues and create them by yourself, don't ask for help if you like problems.
Test another Loader (Wiiflow, CFG, Postloader, neek, etc.) to see if it's caused by USBLoaderGX
Test another USB cable, to see if it's your cable
Test another Wii to see if the problem is your Wii hardware ?
Test another ..... something, so see if it's caused by that one too.

etc. ?
etc.?

Once everything has been narrowed to USBLoaderGX and a specific reason, then we could fix it (whether it's HDD init, or video mode, etc.)

@Cyan Sorry I posted on the wrong thread, see this thread for the post I was trying to reply to the thread in this same section of the forum titled "USB Loader GX Problem - Going Back to Homebrew (SysCheck File Included!)

It was posted about the same time as this thread was started. Sorry about the confusion.

ahh, sorry , I thought you also had black screen problems :p
Then I also replied in your other thread. (about using a more recent syscheck version and replacing cIOS with r52)

edit: ahh, no, my mistake. I posted in someone else with the same problem.
I'll post an answer in yours now.

I actually brought my entire console over to his house (his being a vanilla console) so it wasn't anything to do with incorrect or wrong port/cIOS/SD card. My NTFS formatted external HD (second storage device) has not been reformatted but works now after I refreshed cIOS on my unit, so I don't know if there really was an issue with the external drives.

ah, I didn't understand then. I thought you tried on his console.
Maybe your cIOS had been replaced with a stub ? (nintendo released dummy, doing nothing, IOS which installs in the same slot that known IOS slot used for piracy)
maybe you tried to play a game from the disc channel ? or updated the console from network ? both are responsible for overwriting a cIOS. It can be prevented by using Priiloader and patching the update options.

I'd fully updated the console previously and re-softmodded it, and I never try to play a disc game. :( Ah well, it's all fixed now. >_>

Hey everyone! I'm having the same issue, I recently got my wii back up and running and I keep getting a black screen when I try to load any wii games. It used to work a year or 2 ago when I tried but now all I get is a black screen. I have to reboot the wii every time. I tried updating the cIOS but I don't really understand this stuff so I might be missing something. I updated my usb loader gx to the latest version and a few other things but no matter what I do I can't get the games to run! My gamecube games off nintendont work fine tho. Its just the wii games that don't work.

Please help! Here's my sys check...

I didn't read your message yet, just looked at syscheck and I can already see a problem :
IOS249[56] (rev 21010, Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

replace the slot 249 with d2x v10 r52 instead of r53, same base (base56)

Latest does not mean better.
the latest release is a beta version, unstable version.
please use revision 52 only.

edit:
as for your problem, it's either :
- caused by that cIOS version you installed
- you are probably using a flash drive. Flash drives are not working (anymore) with the Wii. please, use a real HDD, not a stick/key/flash drive.
- you are using a flash drive, and didn't set the loader's IOS to 58. (though, you said you have issue at game launch, not at loader's launch, which makes me think this option will not fix your problem)
- you plugged the drive in the wrong usb port.

Last edited by Cyan,
I've been having issues with my harddrive. When I use my thumbdrive, it loads/plays gamecube games with no issue but when I use my portable hard drive(formatted to fat32), it's stuck on initializing. I've changed the IOS to 58 and that did allow me to see my wii games but not the gamecube games. Running a wii game like this also results in a black screen. What did I do wrong here?

your setup is good.
so, it's really strange because you said "flash drive works with gamecube" (which is normal), and then you said you use "hard drive" which doesn't work with either gamecube OR wii games.

So either :
1. your hard drive is a flash drive ? (SSD, stick ?)
2. your hard drive is not properly formatted (FAT32? no exFat!)
3. you plugged it in the wrong USB Port, have multiple USB connected, or didn't set the path/options to display gamecube games properly.
4. your hard drive is just not compatible with the Wii
