Hello.
I use usb loader gx and bought a verbatim store ‘n’ go 1tb. I formated to fat32 and used wiibackup manager to move games over. Everytime i start usb loader it Will not find my usb hdd. It is in The right port and is powered on by usb. I then have to take it out of The wii and put it back in before its counted out by usb loader and now it finds The hdd and then it loads correctly. Why Will it not recognize my hdd to begin with when i start usb loader?
I have Done all this before with another wii and a different usb hdd with no problems at all.

I am not sure if this will fix your issue but I noticed the following comment by Cyan...

"newest hdd seems to have initialization issue with cIOS.
IOS 58 contains a different USB module which works better (nintendont and wiiflow don't have issues initializing the newest drives, while USBLoaderGX does).
I always suggest users with that init issue to set 58 in their settings and it fixes it. so I tried to fix the issue by forcing IOS58 by default but users reported it didn't help, so I'm not sure what the problem is (manually doing it is fine, forcing is not ? Probably wrong user's report)"

by default USBLoaderGX uses cIOS 249 but you can try changing it to 58 and see what happens. but I noticed when I was playing around with that the other day USBLoaderGX errors and kicks me back to the Wii menu but once I load the USBLoaderGX program from the Wii menu it accepts IOS58. but I have my Wii so it boots straight into USBLoaderGX when I power it on. but I just changed mine back to the default cIOS 249 as I don't have any issues. but I just thought I would mention this as it's what I observed recently.

also, I am not sure if this matters but I have my Wii setup as... v10 beta52, base 57, slot 249, revision 65535. it seems many have base 56 instead of base 57 but it appears from what I have read from Cyan etc that base 57 is safer in general.

p.s. I am just assuming your using the newest USBLoaderGX which is r1268 from Dec 15th 2017.

Yes that is the version Im using. I also Saw The hdd power off when i copied games to it. I formated it before moving games to it, thereby removing all The verbatim files that were on The disc when i bought it. Is that a problem?

When you say you saw the HDD power off when copying games to it, was that on the Wii itself? ; but then again given your initial comment it seems you did all of the transfers on the PC side itself, correct? ; if it powered off on the PC side, it must have just been a loose connection. but if it powered off during a transfer chances are whatever it was transferring at that time might be corrupted but I doubt it would have any negative effect on the hard drive being recognized by USBLoaderGX. but being you say the drive does seem to work fine after you unplug it and then plug it back in, that's why I suggested trying that IOS 58 instead of default of 249 thing which I explain below.

basically try this in USBLoaderGX if you have not already done it...

Settings > Loader Settings > Loader's IOS and change it from IOS 249 to IOS 58 and see what happens by powering off your Wii and then back on.

p.s. deleting the verbatim files etc should be no problem at all.

Yes i was moving files from my computer to The usb hdd.
I tried forcing usb loader to 58 and it did not help.

Okay, thanks for the info Ragepoo2018. I figured it was worth a shot.

but one last thing... does your Wii boot to the main Wii menu first and then you load USBLoaderGX from there? ; if not, it might be worth a try. like with your Wii system off, power it on with your Verbatim HDD connected like usual, it boots into the main v4.3 Wii menu, then when you load USBLoaderGX from there, from it's channel (or from The Homebrew Channel), does it still act up?

but the SysCheckHDE is a good suggestion from jeannotte as this way we can see if your using old stuff etc.

NOTE: keep in mind I just got into the whole Wii moding stuff not even a month ago now. so I am still learning stuff and I am sure there is a lot I don't know yet as I am mostly just familiar with the v4.3 Wii menu using Letterbomb softmod from SD card and then using Priiloader v0.8.2 and making a NAND backup and getting the basic programs up and running which I imagine you pretty much already know this stuff.

@jeannotte ; he already mentioned he used Wii backup manager. but the SysCheckHDE suggestion is a good idea to see exactly what he's got on his Wii and we shall see what happens. ill just sit back and see what others have to say for now.
