usb 1.1 can run huge files such as iso's and movies. just check out the memor32 a memory card unit that allows you to run code through ps2's usb slot from large hdd's including full dvd iso's

is 1.1 fast enough to play online?
Because I just use a LAN connection with a USB adapter, plus the tech specs verify that both ports are 2.0..
So far there is only USB 1.1 for Homebrew.

As Sven says on his blog USB2.0 is impossible for awhile unless we hack the Starlet and upload our own IOS.

As for ISO loaders, they would be needed because the IOS goes over the whole burned disc blocking thingy...You cant avoid it unless you rewrite it (Until we can create custom updates, not going to work)

have you ever actually played a game over USB on ps2?
the load times are 1.5-15x longer than from disk, movies skip, games crash randomly.
and that memcard merely uses the HDD-USB-Loader that has been out for 2+ years.

A great breakthrough, but it seems like just FAT16 for now. USB 2.0 with FAT32 support would be ideal, but it might take a while for even one of those advancements.

So the only thing now is programmers add support for usb connections. Homebrew channel need that one so we can launch all kind of apps from our external flash/HD and then apps like emulators or MFE need that thing so they can load externals files (roms.media). Let's hope we see those updates soon.

"Oh, and just in case you didn't get it yet: The "1.1" in the topic does mean that only USB 1.1 is supported.
I'll also destroy some conspiracy theories here that were mainly created on some spanish board and some other one which has the name of a last-generation handheld in its title:
I have done some tests with the IOS on USB2 support and I'm pretty sure that it's not supported. I cannot do anything against this and I didn't intentionally limit my code to USB 1.1."

I would love an ISO loader, if only to play Scarface without killing my drive

Stuck with 1.1, so it seems..

Well, I'm sure we'll get support eventually, even if it's Ninty that introduce the support! However, I wouldn't hold your breath, just make the most out of the expanded space now you can (well, when homebrew starts to support it, incidentally, when will it?)!
