yeah that was kongnutz. he posted pictures of him with the game and the receipt and bragged about doing so on his personal website registered with his real personal information. doing that is asking for trouble. If he had released it anonymously or had given it to a release group he probably wouldn't have gotten caught, look how many game get released every day and look at how many people end up getting sued by nintendo. kongnutz is the only one that i've heard of.

But I'm still wondering why? I mean, people have "NTSC-U 100+ Wii ISOs!" threads. How are they not in the back of their mind scared of getting caught?

Praise. Why else would anyone do anything? Recognition is key. They aren't as open about it as kongnutz was.

No, I don't download games using torrents. I just have it. I've used it before, for linux distro's which take a while to download. (like fedora: http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ )

I strongly doubt that considering your last post haha but whatever you say (and it's irrelevant to the point).

It costs a lot of money and resources to be taking people to court. Nintendo knew someone was going to leak the game early, the guy just happened to take the bait. Nintendo made an example of him (because they could with all the information they have been giving out) and with so many downloads, enough people have noticed. Small scare tactics with money to be gained by Nintendo's legal department.

I have BitTorrent, and.. yes. Like everyone. Haha.
Nope, I use Vuze.

Vuze is a BitTorrent app.

Nothing to be scared of if they can't get you. All they have to go off is a screen-name which in itself doesn't provide much information (unless you're an idiot and use the same name on other sites).

If you upload it on torrents, they also get your IP. If you use Premium file host sites (e.g. FileSonic) then it's possible for them to obtain your name, IP and bank details (with a court order). There's also basic e-detective work that can follow your e-trails (e.g. links/info on FaceBook) to find out everything about you.

It's not a question about if they can find you, since there are always ways. It's a question of if you will draw their attention enough to want to try. If you're going to commit a crime (and uploading pirated games is a crime), don't go advertising it and you shouldn't have any problem.

Not entirely true since with the right court papers they can also get your IP address with that they have you by the balls so to speak.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

Remember when RiiShop was a thing?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    not really
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
