My Wii is 3.2U with the HBC and cIOS_7 (the one bundled with WiiGator's Backup loader) installed

If you need any more info, feel free to ask cause I'm not sure what else you would need.

Problem:
I actually went out and bought Wii Fit earlier this week, but when I finally got it delivered and popped it in my Wii, it said I needed to update my Wii to the latest version. Now I know 3.4U kills mostly everything, but I've been reading differing stories that say things like

-"If you already have the HBC installed, you can update and it won't affect anything except installing WADs correctly"
and
-"Don't update. It kills everything."

Since I'd rather not lose my HBC and my WADs, though I have cIOS_7 installed, is it safe to upgrade to 3.4 the official way, or must I upgrade some other way?

according to the information you gave...
the best route for you would be to just install starfall and it's hack to bypass the disc update...
then you can stay at 3.2 and still play wiifit...

Per the Starfall section on WiiBrew:

QUOTEThese hacks only work with the System Menu 3.2E(v290) or 3.2U(v289)

Since I mod Wii's, I once saw a Wii that was 3.2U, but had System Menu v292 while I was installing the HBC.

How can I verify my System Menu version?

Also, the "Skip Disc Update Check" option that Starfall contains, how does it work exactly?

Not yet. But if someone does want me to mod their Wii, they'd only need to cover the shipping cost.

Also, found an app to do this (LibWiiGameLoad) with no hazardous installation.
