Updating locally

Can my modded switch update locally to my unmodded switch 2?
I'm on a trip and I can't access or download those updates

Define update. Firmware? Never heard of it. Local version matching for a game? As far as I know, yes, but both consoles need to be on the same firmware, without a firmware update available (if that makes sense... Like if they are both on 21.0.0 but your Switch 2 is online and says there is an update available (because it knows 22 is out), then you'll likely need to update both to 22).

You can version match for games update but if you modded switch is on lower firmware you would need update the firmware, as for cfw files you need to update the files or you won't be able to boot after firmware update.

I think you can match the firmware version too, if I'm not mistaken, so it can still be done entirely offline (just as long as your CFW doesn't need to be updated to support it of course)

I've done it CFW to CFW and OFW to OFW but I've never done it OFW to CFW. CFW to OFW I'm unsure about, since they'll be using nsps, I'm not sure if game update nsps have valid signatures that would allow them to version match to OFW. But OFW to CFW should be no problem since if the updates are valid on OFW they're definitely also valid on CFW.

Yeah depends on what firmware is the modded switch is on, if it is on 21.x.x or below and switch 2 is on the latest then to do the game update version match he needs to update firmware.
