Hacking Updating games online

So my console is North American but the game is EUR, can I still update the game online? And if so what is the procedure (I have never updated a game online before)?

1. Update using Wii U USB Helper [Click on game and then Add Update, just download update]
2. Use NNUPatcher to access eShop and let it automatically update [Needs min.4-5GB NAND memory free, depending on the game]

About 2. I think that only works on in-region games.

As far as I know USB Helper doesn`t have Call of Duty, Sniper Elite, etc.. so unable to pull an update from there.
I realize the WiiU is region free when playing a game but wasn`t sure about updates online???

Yes, you must download the update from the same region of your game. I tried to use an US update for an EUR Zelda Breath of wild and it didnt work
