(sorry if i sound dumb but im new into this 'wii u hacking'. and im also new to the website btw.)
so yeah. the new minecraft update came out and pretty soon the smash bros 1.1.6 update is also coming and welp. if i dont update them i cant play online with my friend. (yes. im one of thoes few 'rare people who still buy games on the wii u' and 'have friends'.) but at the same time i want to stick with 5.5.1 (i use an dns or however you call it to block updates) because there are a few games i want to play that are japan exclusive. so yeah. is there a way to update games without having to update the console?

You can download the updates with NUSGrabberGUI and install them with the 5.5.1 version of wupinstaller (included in this package.)
To use it, put the files from the folder with the .app files from NUSGrabberGUI and put them in SD:\install. Now just launch wupinstaller and it will install in the background.
Most of the times, waiting 15min for it to install in the background is enough. If you get a corrupted data error, you didnt wait long enough.

NUSGrabberGUI opens up with the error message 'Unable to connect to the internet to check for updates.' and it wont show any updates. what did i do wrong?

Do you have Nintendo's update servers blocked on the PC? Could be the reason based on the error message.

oh well. im updating my wii u since i really want to play with my friends. bye wii u hacking :(

Um, how would updating your wiiU be "bye wii u hacking"?
You do know that there is currently no firmware above 5.5.1, right?

Just put your DNS back to auto and kill any blocks you may have set on the router/computer firewall side... and then say goodbye whenever you actually are able to update beyond 5.5.1 (provided the exploit is patched and you don't re-block updates)

It sounds like they've seen the system update in the download manager you get when using the DNS and think there's an actual update for the system.

Sounds like you have legal copies of the games, and not Loadiine ones. You can disable the DNS temporarily (there's no system update yet) and download the updates from there.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
