Gaming Update via NSP in general require previous update before the latest?

Hi Expert,
In general, do I need to update the game incremental or can I just dive into the latest? e.g. Super Smash is currently 1.2 and I still running 1.0, do I need to update to 1.1 before running the update 1.2? This is referring to update using nsp not online. TIA.
