Actually I'm thinking that the 5.3.0 update isn't in the disk either. I believe on IGN or something, they commented about even though they have the game and all amiibos early they "couldn't use them yet". But this is just guessing of course and just taking from what they said before or maybe I misheard. Either way this is going to be interesting to watch how this all works.

A good question list to consider:
Q: What is in 5.3.0?
A: Amiibo settings/support, among other things
Q: Will Amiibo support be required to play Smash 4?
A: Most Likely.
From this, we can conclude that it is likely that there will be an on-disc update.

the new mario kart dlc requires 5.3.0 also. They're on to you!

It's a well-known fact that Nintendo does hire ninjas to follow our very move :creep: Also, that's not surprising, you have to update to gain the online services anyways, but you can't update the game without being on the internet. A vicious cycle, really. No internet no update, no update, no internet.

Smash has 5.1.2 on it. So where's my money.

No, seriously. I want my money. Now.

Where may I ask does it say or confirmed that it has 5.1.2 on it? And if so, that means I can play the game locally.

You'll probably be waiting a while for homebrew and missing out on the game.

I'm on 5.2.0 and have not updated to 5.3.0 yet, nevertheless, being on 5.2.0 is pushing it for sure. Do we have definitive info that the game does have 5.1.2?

So, it is safe to update and still get potential homebrew?

I don't know if he's saying that per se, as long as it's not past 5.2.0, there's hope yet, just might take longer. Your best bet is, if you have to update at all, use the SSB disc, which supposedly has 5.1.2. Don't take my word for it though.
