When 11.9 comes out, will a thread like this be created to tell us if it's safe to update? My worst fear is that something will eventually brick my 3DS.

That a thread would be created is a sure thing, but no firmware update can brick your console.

Ahh. So then what could brick your console if a new update came out? Like, updating some other cfw? Because I've seen YT videos that say stuff like, "11.8 Released: Safe to Update?" So I was wondering. I'm currently on the latest system version if it matters.

Nothing. Boot9Strap is a hardware exploit.

The videos' titles are just to make people worry and click on the video.

Please update to the latest version of Luma3DS/Rei-Six and make a backup before updating!

i see here that CakesFW works.. does that mean it works on 11.8?

you can follow the 3ds.hacks.guide regularly, install CakesFW instead of Luma3DS. As mentioned above, you need the latest native firm 11.8 for CakesFW to work.

im sorry for this but im such a noob to these certain terms but what is a native firm? does that mean be on the latest firmware and if not can you point me in the direction to get the latest native firm for 11.8

use the guide (3ds.hacks.guide) and use the custom firmware "Luma3DS"
This is beginner friendly and runs on the original firmware 11.8.

The custom firmware "CakesFW" is more advanced and needs a "native_firm" so that it can be started.
This custom firmware is therefore not recommended for beginners.

ok ty

could I use basehax on 11.8?
I think I've seen some people mention that, but I haven't tried it myself. It uses the same otherapp.bin that a lot of other exploits use; it's just a question of whether the updater is working.

If you are already using basehax on 11.7 then it will almost certainly keep working if you update to 11.8.
