Ubuntu Live CD Compiz Fusion

i really like ubuntu but i dont think im ready to install it and i like these compiz effects but you have to install it but is there a way to get compiz on a livecd?

I don't believe so as you would have to install drivers for 3D cards.

You could go the alternative route and use Wubi to do an install within Windows. It'll act like a full install and is easy to remove from within Windows.

You could just install the drivers on your Live. You would lose anything on reboot, but it should work for testing out the Compiz fusion effects

Wubi is a pretty good suggestion. Go for it

That is the whole point of Wubi (it is included in the 8.04 Live CD)

Might I instead suggest puppy linux, it is designed to work from a disc and write to a USB stick/cd writer/single file on a hard drive (which can remain as NTFS).

There is a debian option but slackware is the base distro (more or less) and comes with the sorts of programs.

^Puppy is very good and very complete for a linux that runs from ram.

well, ubuntu can partition your hard drive during install, so if you want to try it, you could just assign say 20gb to it.

live distros work fine in theory, but because they load everything from disk they tend to be very slow and not really give a good impression of an OS.
