I agree with this 100% and I was about to post the same thing.

Pokemon worked well because it was turn based so it doesn't require precise timing to the extent a platformer does. This is like the equivalent of letting a drunk drive a bulldozer.

P.S. it's even less entertaining with save states being used. No real threat of losing unless you have some trolls going out their way.
