I found v26624 (link: https://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/titlelist.php?date=10-24-16_08-00-49&sys=ctr&reg=E&soap=1 - scroll down until you see "Home Menu"). That's the one I'd use, personally.

But what I showed you only is relevant if you have an O3DS. If you have a N3DS, I'll provide you with another link.

Oh my God, you scared the hell out of me! I thought you meant, "give me a few NAND backups"! If that's what you had meant, I would've had to break the news that your 3ds was bricked...and I did not want to do that!

This guy had modded his own system, but now can't update and turned to me since I'm more experienced with it, but I had never run across the Home Menu editing before, so I figured that would be the main issue. Seems like I might be on the right track at this point.

Did you remember to check the "New 3ds" box in 3DNUS? If not, there's your problem; you'll need to re-download the update files, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'll look into it some more.

So, after doing some googling around, I found out that the CIA it's having trouble installing is a (possibly Old 3ds) MSET CIA (can't link to the website where I found this out, as it is actually hosting this particular CIA, and that would be considered linking to warez). Did your friend downgrade their MSET (MSET = System Settings, basically; check if the System Settings icon is outdated)?

From what I can see, it looks the same as my 11.2 3DS that I have, so I can't say for sure. Is there a fix? It does have a custom theme applied, but that's never presented an issue before. Only the custom HomeMenu Power Screen.

You know, I really am not sure if this is what's causing the issue. But if the icon looks the same, then it's probably up-to-date. Another question for you: did your friend ever use Gateway or RxTools?

EDIT: Well, there is a fix, and that would be to install the correct MSET file for your firmware version.

I'm trying to find out. He's not being the most cooperative. As far as I know, he used Ocarina and followed the plailect guide a LONG time ago (FBI is still installed over H&S, and is version 1.4.17)

FBI version 1.4.17 DOES have an option to "Install MSET ROP" if you think that may help.

I think it's the L button. Press the L button once, and see if it says "Destination: NAND" on the top screen.
