Gaming Trophy system - Switch

If you want to 100% a game then you'll do it because you want not because of superficial pointless digital trophies that have no meaning whatsoever, other than, bragging rights for whoever cares about it. I know, there's some PS/Xbox gamers who actually buy games just to complete the platinum trophies and not if the game is good or not.

On 360/PS3, I disabled the notification of achievements/trophies as I didn't really find them useful or fun either way.

I agree, all other platforms have some sort of achievements/trophies. And if you don't like well there is always the possibility to turning it off.
And it's not only about getting the platinum, sometimes it offers challenges that you wouldn't think about it on your own. That can be fun.

I don't think anyone can say that not having them is a positive thing.

On PS3 it took a while before trophies could be turned off, whereas on the 360 the option to turn them off was always there, IIRC.

Of course not - it's a neutral thing. It's like having a banana around the house. Some people like bananas, some people don't. Some people would miss a banana when not having any, some would be annoyed by having it around.

I think it's more important to play games on a console than to play a console, basically.

I always enjoyed trophies as just a social share of accomplishments to compare with your friends, and be sort of a "Feed" letting your social community know what you're up to and what you've played/beaten. I never really "hunted" out the extreme challenges, nor do I care about points or colors of trophies I get. I just like it from a record keeping activity.

For example, I wouldn't mind like an NES game being like "You beat Ninja Gaiden!" That would be cool. I wouldn't mind it from that perspective.

Although I was kind of proud of my old X360 self when I got 1000/1000 on Crackdown... stupid orbs...

With that comparison, you could also say that some people like water while others don't but water and fruits are essential unlike this (comparable to fast-food) which is completely optional.

Euhm... no offense but what you wrote sounds totally banana to me. Water. Fruit. Fast food?! Que?!
Let's stay on topic, please.

Let's be fair, the trophy system exist to help developers allow player to squeeze every part of the game play experience possible cause of the way is set up for unlocking.... even though most trophies in games are total BS most of the time.

But nintendo never had this problem, and games themself like shovel knight, super smash bros, and some others have their own achievement system in the game. So is not a issue for nintendo to need such a thing. People play nintendo games way too much anyway, I bet most of the people still playing smash bros, don't have all the achievements unlocked. :P

I enjoy trophies or achievements. I find them the most fun when they're clever and not just "beat the game". As @Saiyan Lusitano say above, if you want to 100% it, then do it. Trophies can bring another layer of challenges to the table on the other hand, like giving you a reason to fly underneath every bridge in GTA 4. It has nothing to do with the game, but gives you an extra "objective" to fulfill.
The same goes for speedrun achievements, no damage, and other fun stuff.

Another good use of achievements in my opinion, is for games with multiple endings. Getting one for every ending, and then a final one when you got them all. It's a good way to keep track of which endings you've gotten if the game itself doesn't do that for you.

I mean i understand some people like collecting trophies, i do it sometimes, but not when it total garbage. "Win 10 consecutive matches in a row in online ranking match."

Oh anyone remember mega man 10. "MR.PERFECT" Complete the game without taking damage. WHY ON GOD'S EARTH WOULD ANYONE PLAY A MEGA MAN GAME LIKE THAT! O_O

Some achievements especially multiplayer games are just plain awful. Only someone with enough desire to get these trophies would get them.

Oh check this out, I been playing muramasa rebirth on psvita. Only 2 trophies away from platinum, guess what it is? Beat the game on hardest difficulty.... PROBLEM!

On hardest difficulty you ALWAYS HAVE 1 HP. One hit deaths? Yeah that is not gonna happen. :glare:

because Nintendo is completely out of touch?

trophies would raise the value of the Wii U/Switch to people like me... but Nintendo is clueless.

Also i love how the question of why doesn't Nintendo have trophies turns into a argument on whether YOU PERSONALLY like trophies...people are so self centered.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of multiplayer / online based achievements or trophies. Difficulty based ones are fine in my opinion though, an achievement IS an achievement ;) It should be difficult to get them all. @Sonic Angel Knight

A perfect achievement system for me would be one divided into two: one for single players, and one for multiplayers. That way you can 100% the single player achievements, even if you don't want to bother with online matches. That's never going to happen though, but that's what I wish for.

I understand the reason why is hard, i just think some are a bit too hard and tedious not rewarding. Of course there is a class system. Bronze, silver, gold, platinum. Just some are a bit wayyyyyyy tooooooo tedious. Most of them are multiplayer based. I just hate the fact that some achievements are actually based on your ability to be better than another player.... online. I don't feel rewarded or excited about those, mostly cause online is not perfect with everyone and complete strangers who could been playing the game for years of experience is never easy to beat.

If a achievement in super smash bros was to beat 15 players online in ranked matched (one on one glory) and you see someone like Mew2King you are not gonna beat him unless he just having a bad day. :wtf:

Kingdom hearts 2 HD remix, Defeat the lingering will. ANYONE who played that game and fought that guy knows he not easy, you will die a lot.

Is a trophy system there to test player ability of their skills limit and explore as much of the game as devs could put into it. No you don't have to do everything, some people get satisfied with what they have done and call it a end. But on psn/xbox and steam people can see your trophies, nintendo games have achievements but can't see them cause is not into sharing such things online with other people. At least if there was some reason that would make people wanna earn them like maybe converting them into currency to redeem for buying a game, or unlocking dlc for the game or something useful than just.... "Here look at all the trophies i got. I'm better than you."

I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
